1992, Santa Barbara

Shaina was at an age when all she had to worry about was passing her tests in school. (Which was easy since her science teacher always uses the same pattern for test answers: A, B, C, C, D)

12 year old Shaina was riding her bike around the neighborhood. The wind blowing in her face made her smile, and her smile made her seem friendly.
She smiled and waved at her neighbors who recognized her face.

She knew everyone by name, thanks to her superb memory that her father trained her to have.

But there was one house in the neighborhood that Shaina didn't know the owner of. This gray house on the corner of Grayson Street. Nobody ever talked to the residents at that house.

But as Shaina passed by the house, there was a woman who was gathering her groceries from the back of her car. The woman's back was turned to Shaina, so she couldn't see her face.

But when the woman saw Shaina, she froze. Shaina stopped her bike as well, in the middle of the street.
The woman gave Shaina a sorrowful smile.

2014, Present Day

A grown-up, but still immature Shaina was on her way, with her best friend, to the SBPD. They park behind a red Chevy Truck before exiting the car. Shaina continued the conversation they were having as they were driving, “If I had to choose… I'd die execution style by Firing Squad.”

“First of all, no one is asking you to choose. Secondly, why that? It's brutal and violent.” Briana questions her partner's logic.

“I know. But I'd select all my shooters personally. Jim Carrey, Conan O’Brian, Jerry Seinfeld, and Robin Williams. All the comedy greats. How funny would that be?” Shaina tries to prove her point.

But Briana shakes her head, “It wouldn't be. You'd be dead.”

“Why you gotta take it to a dark place?” Shaina groans as they walk up the steps into the SBPD.

“Her name is Allison Cowley. She claims to have been abducted by our serial killer, Mr. Yin, and she won't give her statement to anyone but you--- What is that sound?” Chief Vick cuts off her speech when she hears a crunching sound.

Everyone turns to Shaina who was busy playing with the candy bowl Chief Vick had on her desk. When she felt all their eyes on her, Shaina looks up.

“Oh, sorry, Chief…” She picks one and holds it up for Chief Vick, “Sucking candy?”

“We have a situation here.” Chief Vick tries to get Shaina to be serious. Only, Shaina wasn't a serious person.

“The situation is that Bri and I receive 6 of these Yin calls each month.” Shaina states.

“6.8” Briana tries to correct her, only confusing Shaina,
“That would insinuate that one of those calls were missing an appendage.”
Shaina holds a candy close to Briana's face, “Sucking candy?”

Briana refuses her offer, “No... These
Yin-ites come out of the windworks looking for some type of thrill or validation.”

Lassiter scoffs, “Sickos and wackjobs… Though very sad.”

“I concur, Lassie. Suck.” Shaina throws a sucking candy at his chest, only for it to fall to the floor.

“Ms. Spencer, we have an obligation to investigate every claim that comes into this station. So get in there.” Chief Vick demands.
