Maddie's POV

Whilst driving to Ali's home, the familiar ringtone went off and I checked to see who was calling me. I picked up my phone from the passenger seat, and Louis' name popped on the screen. I slid right to answer the call, put in on speaker mode, then placed my phone on the dashboard.

"Hello?" I casually said.

Louis answered back, "Hi." Not too shabby.

"Hey babe I'm driving, why'd you call?"

"See you at dinner then?", Louis still happily replied.

I just drove past the first traffic light, "Yea love, what should I wear?"

"It's a semi formal dinner. Wear a dress, something nice. And oh where are you headed to?"

I took a left turn and I see Ali on the front porch, "To Ali's."

"Alright, I have to hang up now, drive safe! I love you.", Louis said and I almost ran over a poor cat.

I then slowly parked my car in front of Ali's flat. Did Louis just say I love you? I looked at my phone and I knew Louis still hasn't hung up. Was it an automatic I love you though, like the ones you say to your parents, or to a pizza delivery guy after he says good bye - just out of habit.

I then clicked the speaker off and held my phone to my ear, "I love you too." I smiled.

I heard Louis chuckle a bit before the phone hung up.

"Babe, this is legit. You have to wear something that would pop his eyes out." Ali told me as she adjusted a Christmas ball hanging on the Christmas tree. I had just told her about the previous phone call with Louis.

I was sitting on her couch, watching her fix the tree, with my mind still lost in what can happen tonight. "Just come with us tonight, will you?", I told Ali.

She faced me and said, "Mad, you know I can't. Christmas family dinner, remember?"

"I know but, I need my best friend in moments like this one." I sighed.

"I'm always a phone call away. And besides, you have Louis. It's just the same thing except in boy form. I think." She then faced back at the tree.

I placed my gift for her under the plastic pine tree. It was a nail polish set wrapped in colorful paper. I wanted that set too honestly, but it really is not giving when it does not hurt, right? "Merry Christmas, girl. Love ya." I now stood up to hug Ali.

She grabbed a longer rectangular box wrapped in a blue ribbon and handed it to me, "Here is for you. Open it. Come on."

It was slightly heavy but light at the same time. I have no idea what to expect. I then slowly pulled the ribbon off the box.

"Really, the suspense is killing me." Ali suddenly said.

I laughed, "Then go open yours as well."

When Ali grabbed hers, we both opened our individual gifts together. And before my eyes, a gorgeous classic brown ukulele was rested on my hands. I shot a look at Ali, who I saw was as much in a haze as I was.

"Ali, you amazing little beast, you!" I shouted in a surprised manner.

"Me, amazing, hey thank you for this! This is what I've been eyeing for ages. You little bitch!", Ali now enveloped me in a hug.

We usually addressed ourselves in aggressive ways, may it be for happy situations, angry ones, and even for just giving thanks.
