Late for Saotome Academy

"Hey Nanami."

"Mm?"

"We're late."

"EHH?!" Nanami quickly sat up from her bed and almost hit my face.
"Why didn't you wake me up?!" She quickly scrambles her things and went in the shower.

"I tried trust me but you wouldn't wake up." I shrugged.

"Haahh, I don't want to be late for this!"

"Come on we have 1 hour to go there and considering how long you take a bath its down to 30 minutes."

"Waahhh! I'll hurry okay!" She went out of the bathroom and got dressed.

I was already up 2 hours ago. I already got changed, ate breakfast and got all my stuff together while Nanami got her bag and grabbed her scarf and umbrella.

"Alright I'm done! Lets go Melody!" She said.

Here in Japan it was cold outside. Snow started just yesterday.

"Okay" I grabbed my umbrella and scarf and wrapped it around my neck then ran out of our room. We had 40 minutes to go.

While we were running towards our destination we ran accross a crying girl. Nanami being the helpful girl she is abruptly stopped in ther tracks and asked the girl. "What's wrong?"

We only managed to understand a little of what the girl said.

"I'm *sniff*..lawst." she managed and cried more.

"It's okay little girl come on." Nanami held out her hand to the sobbing child and she took it.

"Where did you last see your parents?" I asked her.

She wasn't able to reply because she nose was stuffed, so I pulled out a tissue from my bag and wiped her nose.

"We came from that place." She pointed towards the opposite direction we were going.

Nanami and I had the same thought. We were going to be late. I thought to myself we just can't leave her behind. I nodded to Nanami and she understood.

"Alrighty little girl lets go find your parents."

Nanami gave her umbrella to the little girl to hold. I gave mine to Nanami.

"Melody...it's fine I don't need one." She smiled at me.

"You need it plus I have high tolerance in the cold."

"But...are you sure?" She asked

"Of course."

"Thank you Melody."

We continued to walk towards the direction she pointed at. 30 minutes to go.

Suddenly there was a stray dog suddenly barking at the little girl. She was scared and hid behind Nanami. She started to cry again. I, being the animal lover, crouched down and shooed the dog away.

"Its okay the dog is gone." I said

The girl still was scared and was crying loudly. We were disturbing other people around us. Nanami was also in panic trying to soothe the little girl. Suddenly I remembered something grandmother said to me.

"Your singing can soothe ones heart depending on what you sing to them." Grandmother once told me.

I unconsiously sang one of my childhood songs that always managed to soothe my very heart.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You never know, dear, how much I love you.
Please dont take my sunshine away~

I stopped singing and realized a lot of people were staring at me while the little girl stopped crying and staring st me with awe.

Huh I thought to myself what grandmother said was right. I looked at Nanami suddenly the little girl hugged me and she said.

"Big sister your voice is beautiful!" She said with her eyes sparkling.

"Ahahaha...thank you." I said shyly.

Nanami understood me and smiled at me. Suddenly a man and a woman ran towards us.

"Shina!! You both made mommy and daddy worry about you!" The man said to the little girl.

"Papa! Mama!" The girl reunited with her parents

"Thank you for bringing my our daughter here." Both the parents bowed to us.

"Ahh it's no problem!" Nanami and I said simultaneously.

We said our goodbyes. Then Nanami said.

"You finally sang." She smiled at me

"Heh, I remembered what grandmother told me before."

"Of how your songs soothe peoples hearts?" She guessed correctly.

"Yep." I smiled i looked at my watch and we had 10 minutes left.

"WE'RE LATE!" Nanami shouted she suddenly grabbed my hand and we both ran for the gates. When we got there we had 5 minutes left.

But the guard said "I"m sorry both of you are late."

"Eh...?" I said.
