Stephanie's POV
That call was the scariest thing I've ever been through in my life.
"Hello? Is this Stephanie Ikes?"
"Yes? Who is this?"
"This is Doctor Grey at Clearwater Hospital in Honolulu. Your mother has been in a shark attack."
I dropped my phone and sprinted out the door. Who goes surfing at night?! Ugh mom knows better than that! Ugh and I forgot Cole. He is going to be devastated! I ran back home and sprinted up to his room. Okay this is going to be difficult.
"COLE MICHAEL IKES YOU'VE GOTTA GET UP NOW!"
"No go away!"
"COLE OUR MOTHER IS DYING YOU'D BETTER GET UP NOW!
He leaped out of bed and ran downstairs. We ran all the way to the hospital which by the way is only 6 blocks away. We live in a beach house 5 meters away from a beach that has shark invested waters, a hospital needs to be very close to our house.
We got to the hospital and Cole immediately went into one of his anxiety attacks.
"COLE NOT NOW!" I screamed. The kids 13 ok?! Our mom has been in a lot of accidents and always pulls through but every time he has to go and be a wimp.
"She's gonna die this time Stephanie isn't she?" He whispered to me.
"No Cole. Mom will be fine. She is going to live and be fine."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
A doctor came over to us and rushed us towards the waiting rooms.
"Okay just stay here your mother is in surgery and..."
I froze everything he said just got all blurred. Surgery. Surgery. I heard someone repeat my name a couple times but it was so fuzzy. Suddenly everything went black.
It felt like minutes I had been out because I heard Cole screaming and I jolted up. Crap. I'm in a hospital bed.
"MOM? COLE?" I ran out my room to see the doctors trying to calm Cole down.
"Cole shut up with that. How's my mom?"
"Ms.Ikes you may want to come for a walk with me."
"She's dead isn't she?"
"Worse." Cole whispered.
"Your mother, Ms.Ikes, has lost all of her memory. She forgets everything that has happened to her since she was 16."
"She had me when she was 16."
"We know she keeps asking for her babies. We keep stressing to her that you're 16 but she just won't believe us."
"Excuse me, but BABIES? You mean like my mother believes that I have a twin as well?"
"Come with me Steph." Cole said taking my hand. What a crappy day. My mom got in an accident, my brother was being selfish about it, I knocked out, and now my mom is a nut-job! We got to her room and I sat beside her bed. She turned to me.
"Who are you?" Tears formed in my eyes. Stay strong and just play along.
"I'm a doctor ma'am. If you could just tell me what has happened today so I may help you?"
"Okay I guess. Well I'm 16 and I'm having twins. Weird right? I want to get out of Australia SO bad but my jerk of a boyfriend says he wants to stay so he can be with his family. Dorky right?" This took me a minute to absorb. My dad is American and my mom is Australian. Everyone knows that. So who is this boyfriend?
"Can you tell me your boyfriends name? So um I can get some verification?"
"Gordon Clifford. Everyone calls him Mike though. Wait a second, you're gorgeous! What's your name?" Oh crap! No crying! My whole entire life is a lie.
"Stephanie."
"Stephanie? That's my daughters name! I hope she's as gorgeous as you someday."
"So um your daughter, she has a twin?"
"Yeah um Michael I think her deadbeat dad is calling him. He has such a strong little grip. He'll be great at guitar because of it. Stephanie on the other hand was my feisty one. She was always kicking me. Both of their eyes are just whirlwinds of gray and blue and green. My little blondies is what my mom calls them." Wow this woman is random.
"What is going to happen to Michael? You talk about him and your children's father as though you'll never see from them again."
"It's because I won't! Thank god for it too! Well Michael I'll miss but Mike on the other hand could take Stephanie too for all I care. Whatever he wants to get him out of my life."
I stormed out of the room. She didn't want me! She would've gotten rid of me if it got my dad out of the picture. A ton of big insurance people came to talk to me.
I change what I said in the beginning. What they said is the worst thing ever.
