Sitting at the front desk, I flipped my hair and looked at some files.
" hey girl I just got in, can you hand me my file?". Turning around, I gave Lisa her file and she thanked me. Looking at the time I locked my phone seeing someone at the desk.
" hi are you looking for a patient?". I asked as a older lady looked at me impatiently.
" um yes I'm looking for my son, kris walker?". Checking the computer I typed his name.
" he's in room 265, just got out of surgery a while ago".
" oh thank you so much". I could tell she had been crying and I felt bad.
" no problem ma'am". The lady pulled her purse over her shoulder and smiled lightly before heading to the elevator.
Crossing my legs, I looked around and noticed dr.james coming from the back.
" how you doing de'arra?". I rolled my eyes and flashed a fake smile.
" I'm fine, here's your file". I handed it to him and turned around before he could continue the conversation.
Tapping my nails on the counter, a man walked up to the desk on the phone and I waited for him to finish.
" my bad uh, im looking for my brother. Kris walker". He said, licking his lips.
" he's in room 256..". I said remembering his mother coming to the deck.
" thanks". I smiled and nodded as he looked at me again before walking away.
" oh he was cute de'arra". I heard Lisa say.
" eh, he's alright. it's your shift?". She nodded and I got up.
" You need a man girl, miles ain't shit". I rolled my eyes and put my hand on my hip.
" we're not even together anymore, taking a break". I said.
" mhm, here's your file girl". She handed me my file and I put it up going to the back. Getting my clip board, I headed to the elevator going to the second floor.
Walking into the room, I instantly seen the guy that came to the desk earlier. Clearing my throat, I walked up to the patient.
" hi love I'm your nurses, de'arra. Are you feeling any pain?". I asked looking up from the clip board.
" not at the moment-". He said before his mother cut him off.
"Does he have to take hourly medication?".
" yes ma'am, only for pain..". I said, checking everything to make sure nothing was wrong. Feeling someone staring at me I cleared my throat.
" I'll be back in a few hours to check on you, if you need anything..press this button". I said pointing to the button next to the bed.
" I will, thank you", I nodded wrote a few things on the clip board before leaving the room.
Ken
"Are you comfortable? Do you need anything?". I chuckled at my mom babying my brother.
" ma I'm okay, I'm comfortable". Kris said irritated.
" I'm just making sure, I can't believe you got in a car accident". She said fixing his pillows.
" ma chill, kris just said he's straight. You don't have to baby him.".
" thank youu, I'm fine ma",
" okay okay, I just want to make sure your alright. I'll chill out". She sat down and I chuckled.
" good, let him breathe. He probably not even hurt". I said jokingly and kris stuck his middle finger at me causing me to laugh.
" oh aight, keep playing with me". Waving him off, I looked down at my phone ringing and ignored it.
" who as that ken?".
" stop being nosey ma". She threw a peppermint at me and we all laughed.
" I'll fuck you up ken". My mother said while laughing.
" oh aight, we'll see about that". My phone ringing again, I sighed and stepped out to answer it.
" yo?".
" ken why are you ignoring me?". She yelled.
" chill out man, where you at?".
" in the parking lot, can you meet me in the front?". I started walking to the elevator and brushed my hair down.
" yeah, I'll meet you there". She said okay before hanging up and I slid my phone in my pocket.
De'arra
Sitting at the front desk, I had my ear phones I'm listening to music. Tapping my finger nails on the counter I looked around.
" girl these night shifts ain't no joke". Lisa said as I took my ear phones out.
" I hear you, tired as hell". Noting the guy from earlier, he was talking to a pregnant woman. She hugged him and he rubbed her back before kissing her forehead.
We locked eyes with each other and I flipped my hair over my shoulder as he winked at me before leaving with the woman.
" uhh..what was that about?". Lisa asked looking confused.
" girl I don't even know..".
