"Now, tell us, Miss Brown, exactly what happened," demanded Controller Finn, as he stared down at me from across the small table.
I sighed, feeling extremely uncomfortable in my tore up dress. The sequins were digging into the backs of my arms, and the floorlength skirt was torn all the way up the side, revealing the new crimson gash on my leg. The bright lights from above only amplified the dirt and dried blood that was ground into my skin, and I could imagine the crazy stories that were being fabricated as I sat there. Quickly, I glanced over at the only door in the interrogation room, then over to the one-way mirror, knowing that there were countless people sitting on the other side, watching me. Waiting for my answer.
Waiting to see just where I went wrong.
I knew that in an hours time, people would be spreading my story. I'm sure the news caption would read somthing along the lines of '4th Division Slayer Gone Rough' or 'Kyra Brown: The Inside Story Of Her Betrayal'. But I didn't care. I stood by my actions, even though nobody else will probably ever understand.
"I don't have any patience for your games," he continued, slamming his fist on the desk. I didn't flinch, even though it had surprised me; I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction. He didn't scare me. He's seen what I can do, and he knows the only thing he has over me is his authority for the rules. I just stared him right back in the eyes, creating our own little game. Who could stare the longest. Any ideas I had of him being on my side had all died out in the events leading up to this moment.
I noticed he was wearing a white collared shirt, with a small ketchup stain just below the breast pocket. His tie was loosed and the first button of his shirt was undone. Pairing this with the messy short hair that he now ran his fingers through, and the large bags under his eyes, I'd say he'd had a long day. He had a slight five o'clock shadow forming along his jaw, and a small scar at the corner off his eye.
These were all things I was trained to notice with just a glance.
With one last sigh, I looked down at my lap. There were tiny cuts all over my hands and my arms, and everywhere else for that matter. I sank back into my chair, knowing that this would take a while to explain. Sensing my surrender, the Controller sank back into his seat as well, and waited patiently for me to start. There was so much to explain that I wasn't sure where to start.
Glancing once more at the window, I wondered if Aiden was among the crowd that had now probably formed.
I wondered if he hated me.
I know I would.
"I think I better start from the beginning," I said finally.
