The first thing I noticed as I gained consciousness was a steady, high pitched beeping coming from somewhere nearby. I shifted slightly, eyes still closed, and felt the comfort of an unfamiliar bed beneath me. Thinking back, I couldn't remember how I got there. I recalled leaving the library, dropping my books, walking back throught town...

The memories of my faceless stalker resurfaced all at once, and my eyes flew open. I quickly sat up, only to be forced back down by a sharp wincing in my ribs. Moaning, I grabbed at my stomach, staring up at the white ceiling.

"Woah, calm down there," said an unfamiliar voice. I snapped my head to the side just as a boy, probably about my age, sunk to his knees at the edge of my bed, so that our faces were level.

"Are you okay?" he asked. His brown eyes were piercing; concerned.

"Who the hell are you?" I asked, only faintly aware as the beeping noise increased with every hard beat of my heart.

"It's okay, Kyra," he said, noticing my increased heartbeat as well,"Calm down."

"Where am I?" I cried as I sat up frantically, ignoring the pain,"How do you know my name?"

"Kyra, please," He said, as he slowly stood up,"Everything is going to be okay, I promise. Just hear me out."

I glanced frantically around the room. It was small, and white; almost like a hospital room, only it was too....lived in. The strange boy was still watching me. What choice did I have but to listen to him?

"Okay," I said finally, as the beeping slowed once again,"Who are you?"

"I'm Aiden," He said, smiling, as he gently sat at the end of my bed,"Aiden Blackwell."

"Oh," I said awkwardly, unsure of what to say next,"So, how do you know my name?"

"I...Well..." He said, struggling for words,"It's kind of hard to explain."

I nodded slowly, waiting for an him to elaborate, but instead we were interrupted by a women walking through the door. She looked to be around twenty or twenty-five, and she was carrying a tray of food.

"Oh," she said, surprise written on her face when she spotted me,"Your up."

"What do you need, Arabella?" Aiden asked, not taking his eyes off me.

She shot him a look of disgust, though he didn't see it, "I brought her some food, like you asked me too."

"Oh," he said,"right, thank you."

He stood up and walked over to her, whispering something in her ear before taking the tray. She nodded quickly and glanced over at me, before backing quietly out of the room. My curiosity was quickly forgotten as Aiden set the tray of food in front of me and my stomach growled hungrily. Only hesitating for a moment before deciding that the food was safe, I snatched up a half of cinnamon bagel and bit into in ferociously.

"How long was I out?" I asked through a mouthful of food.

"About forty-eight hours," he chuckled softly as he reclaimed his spot at the end of the bed.

I swallowed hard, choking from surprise. Gratefully, I accepted the glass of water Aiden held out for me, and chugged the whole thing before setting it down and running the back of my hand over my mouth. I hadn't realized how thirsty I was.

"Forty-eight hours?" I asked,"Isn't someone missing me? The headmaster, does he know where I am?"

"No," he replied solemnly after a minute,"They all think your dead."

My mouth fell open as I stared at him. "They think I'm...dead?"

He just nodded, giving me time to really comprehend what he had said. I stared at him, unable to wrap my head around what he was telling me. It didn't make any sense. I most definitely wasn't dead...right?

"Why?" I snapped, my voice sounding angerier than I ment it to.

"Because thats what we wanted them to think," he said softly, gaging my reaction once more.

"We?" I asked, no lowering my voice,"Who the hell is we?"

"Please," He said, his voice pleading for me to just listen,"It's so hard to explain."

"Well you better figure it out before I call the police," I threatened.

"Fine," He said, digging a cell phone out of his pocket and setting it on my tray,"Do it. But I don't think you'll have a lot of luck."

"What do you mean?" I asked cautiously, anger still accented in my voice.

"What exactly do you plan on telling them?" He laughed,"'Hi, I'm Kyra Brown, the dead girl, and I've been abducted by some people that I don't know, and they brought me to someplace somewhere'. I don't think they'd jump to your rescue."

I sighed in defeat knowing that he was right. But what he said kept running through my head.'Hi, I'm Kyra Brown, the dead girl'. The dead girl. That's how everyone thought of me now.

"'We' is referring to everyone that was centered around your fake death, and your entry to our world," he said after a minute,"Myself included."

"My entry into your world?" I asked skeptically,"And just what world is that?"

"Well," he said slowly, staring me right in the eyes,"Your life is about to change, a lot. We don't live by the same rules here. Our lifestyles are different to the ones your used to. We live...differently."

"I still don't understand," I said,"Where am I?"

"The I.V.S.H, otherwise known as Vulcan," he replied matter-of-factly as he picked a carrot off my plate, examined it, and threw it back down,"International Vampire Slayer Headquarters."

I looked at him, raising my eyebrows in disbelief. He had a lot of nerve if he thought he could play with me like this. Vampires aren't real. They are just made up to scare little kids at Halloween, or to set ridiculously high standards for teenage boys.

"Don't believe me?" he said, smirking, while taking the food tray off my lap and setting it on a nearby table,"Then let me show you."

I didn't know this guy. I didn't know where I was. But I was sure, that at any moment, I was going to wake from this terrible nightmare and find myself right back in my dorm at the academy. So really, what did I have to lose?

He held his hand out, and because I'm an idiot, I took it.
