Back when I was young, no one ever frowned. Mama always said, "Ain't no frown good enough for our smiles!" so we'd just smile on in her footsteps. We were a strong family, came together when times grew rough. Never a time did I hear scream'n through out my grow'n years. No sir, we heard nothin but the sweet laughter of the happy ones.
Mama was famous for her peachy creations in fact, it was so popular, she wouldn't show nobody how to make it, not even me. I'd peek at her work'n hands but, she'd always catch me and send me off to bed, 'cause she'd only ever make it at night. Everyone in town called her Mrs. Peach and the name stuck with pride.
I'd get paid five cents every time I collected peaches from the peach trees, but I stopped do'n that after a bee flew up and got me right on the nose! My older sister Ruthie done took that job and the money. I missed my payment though I was never to good with stings.
But we best start at the beginning, where smiles meant the most.
