Author' note: technical difficulties, I didn't have internet for a whole week and I'm sooooooo extremely sorry for the delay ❤️❤️ hopefully this chapter is worth the wait. Thank you once again for the support and enjoy the update!!
The plane ride was smooth sailing the entire time, and it couldn't have been any better. Baggage claim was kind of a disaster, considering the fact that most planes had arrived to New York which were filled with the rest of the contestants from around the world. Some came from Spain, others from England, and some from different states in America. Although, the contestants who really caught my eye were the ones from South Korea. As Alya and I were grabbing our bags, I took closer look at the clothes they were wearing. Their fashion statements were along the lines of cute, yet with an alternative flare to them. One of them was wearing what looked like school girl uniform, but in a blue pastel color, along with a pink pastel jacket and to complement her look, her hair was in two buns. I am definitely going to ask them for some fashion advice, I thought to myself. I quickly remembered about the green tea macaroons I brought from home and dug into my bag I had with me on the flight. I opened the box to check if they were all intact, and sure enough they were!
"Hey Alya," I tap her on the shoulder and whisper. "I'm gonna go see if the contestants from Korea want some of my macaroons."
She couldn't help but smile at me. "Wow, didn't expect this competition to change you this much! Go ahead. I'll meet you by the check in okay?"
"Will do!" Without even thinking my feet started to walk. At first I didn't really think about what Alya said, which wasn't a problem until I started getting closer to them. My eyes widened and my heart started to beat out of my ear drums. How could I not have thought twice about this? What if I mess up? What if I ended asking a really stupid question? Suddenly I hear a familiar laugh just past them, sure enough it was Cloe. My face instantly turned red. I can't talk to them now! Cloe will totally throw me under the bus by telling them I'm clumsy, or that she has a way better chance with Adrian (which obviously is a total lie, but still). Chloe or no Chloe, I was determined to at least make some friends on this trip. Alya was right, this trip was totally changing me. Standing my guard, I walked straight up to them. Oh boy.
"A," I shuddered quietly trying to remember how to say hello in Korean, luckily they didn't hear me. I took a deep breath in, and finally gained courage. "Annyeonghaseyo." I smiled and waved as they turned around one by one. They all seemed to have a confused expression on their face, probably because I butchered the pronunciation. All eyes were on me. "I-I'm Marinette and I'm from France! I just came over to say," Before I could finish my sentence, Cloe decides to pester me.
"Oh Marinette, what unexpected surprise! Tragically." She begins to circle around me and then stops in front of me. She takes a quick glare at the box. "Let me guess, you brought these with you to poison the other contestants so you could take the gold, harsh Mari." The girls clearly understood what she had said and each took a step back.
My face turned red again, only this time with rage. "I would never do that!"
"Ha! It's so true! Just look at your face, red with embarrassment!" She threw a laughing fit as she walked away with Sabrina.
"Sorry about her, but I just wanted to say," "This is a competition right?" The girl I was describing before spoke out. Her eyes seemed to reflect off a sweet aura, but her tone sounded other wise. The rest of the girls in the group crossed their arms and gave me a cold stare. I was too nervous to say anything else or even finish my sentence so I just nodded.
She raised an eyebrow at me and turned back to friends and whispered something in Korean to them. I couldn't make out what she was saying, but the girls immediately giggled as she turned back around. She looked straight at me with her hands on her hips. "Look, not to drag you under the bus or anything, but going up to different contestants and trying to socialize pretty much defeats the purpose of the word 'competition'." She quotes the word with her fingers. "I'm here to win, and trust me not Chloe Bourgeois," she points at me making me take 2 steps back. "Or you, are going to get in my way." With that she turns her heals from me and walks towards the exit where security guards waited to check out passengers. Her friends just giggled and walked behind her. Tears started to form in my ears, but I bite my lip to stop them from falling. I could of sworn the application said this was going to be a friendly competition, I didn't expect the contestants to be so rude. Well she pretty much said she didn't like Chloe so that made me smile a bit, but I was completely bummed. I stuff the macaroons back in my back and walked towards the exit.
