The night of the 8th grade dance was truly, the best night of my life that year. Yes, I went without a date but I did go with my best friend. I forgot to tell you, at the end of 7th grade year, I moved 30-50 miles away from where I used to live leaving behind all my neighborhood friends. That really helped my depression. I still attended the same Middle School for my last year though. I was part of a special program so the bus still picked me up out where I now live. I rode the bus with four other people. Not the most fun bus ride! Anyways, where was I? Oh yes, the dance. So, the majority of the night I spent alone because my best friend had a date and all my other friends either had a date, a group of exclusive friends, or didn't come. I did manage to spend some time with some of my friends that were there, but not much. The building where they had the dance was absolutely perfect. The foods were delicious, the theme was all around the world so there were all different types of food from all around the world. There was a photo booth that I got a couple pictures in. They had props you could use to take pictures with, it was pretty fun. Of course, with it being my first dance, I got all dolled up. I have curly hair, so I got it straightened and I got my nails done with acrylics. The dress I wore, it was cute. It was black with a floral print and I wore nude flats because I'm pretty tall as is! Most of the night I spent sitting or standing either with someone or alone drinking soda or eating little snacks. I remember one of my good friends sitting with me at a table because he saw me alone and stopped dancing to sit with me, he was a sweet guy. I told him he should go dance and have fun with his friends and he did. So I went and stood with my only friend that was there without a date and then a slow song came on and I sat down because I was there alone. Just as I sat down, the man I had been in love with walked over and asked me if I wanted to dance! Oh my gosh, I was so embarrassed and happy at the same time. Of course at first I turned him down and looked up at my friend because she had a crush on him while I was dating him and still currently. So, as I was gazing up at her and he was holding his hand out, she said "go, go dance and have fun", and I did. He grabbed my hand in his and put his other on my waist and I put my other on his shoulder. It was a short slow dance but it meant the world to me and after that night, I knew that I still loved him!
