Tainted Mind

"They say sometimes dreams are better than reality, but what do you get when their one in the same?"

Darkness.

That was all Beautiful could make out once his body allowed him to pry his eyes open. He peered around aimlessly, struggling to find just a glimmer of light. It only took a few moments before he realized he wasn't going to have any luck. He grunted as he fought with himself to push upward from the slouched position he sat in. His hand slid across a cold flat surface as he gained the last bit of strength to reclaim his normal stature. "Beautiful,"He heard the sound of an all too familiar voice, one that he couldn't put a face to at the moment. It was a tone that had never left him. He wanted to call out to it as the urgency of the voice grew louder. He decided against it and began to pace himself while taking slow steps forward. He placed his hands out in front of himself to keep from running into anything.

It was then that his foot collided with a substance unknown to him. He inhaled deeply. His heart beat quickened at the smell of iron. He knew that pungent stench. It reeked of blood. "Beautiful!"There was that same voice, yelling at him this time. He became frantic, his orbs steadily surveying the darkness. He heaved in a few deep breaths and continued walking. The odor of blood became more prominent. He grew more worrisome when the screaming of his name became boisterous. He placed his hands over his ears and started to rock where he stood. He brought his eyes to a close as to drown everything out. It didn't help any, only seeming to make him that much more frightened.

"Help me, Beautiful!"It became a chant amongst the mysterious being. Beautiful realized he couldn't keep standing there. He had to get out. He took it upon himself to peel his eyes open again. He scrutinized all of what he could make out until his orbs connected with a tinge of light off into the distance. He propelled forward and commenced running. The further he ran the thicker the blood. It felt as though he were going to drown within it, it having now reached his calves. He continued plowing through it, his only goal being to reach the light.

The closer he got to the light the further it seemed to be getting away from him. "Beautiful!"His name came out in a series of cries and screams. He panicked and began to desperately survey all that he could make out. A flash suddenly set the room ablaze. The flare was so bright that he shielded his face with his arms. He pulled them down once he heard the commotion of foot steps come upon him. He dared himself to gaze around. Faceless people surrounded him, reaching out for him. They all called out to him in agony, repetitively chanting his name.

Beautiful's visage became one of fear. He then bent forward before securing his hands over his ears once more. He could feel their presence closing in on him. He wanted to open his mouth and tell them to stop but he couldn't make himself do it. Those thoughts quickly became short lived. Trepidation invaded him. He could feel their hands touching him, covering him in their blood. The barrier inside him broke and his screams drowned out their cries, leaving the darkness to once again consume him.

Beautiful thrashed violently against the confinement of his bed. His heart fluctuated, barreling in his chest at an unwelcoming speed. The series of oncoming screams happening in his mind were the only thing able to get him to force his eyes open. Blatant uneasiness passed through him as he clutched onto his coal colored comforter. The creaking from his bed sounded as he sent himself bolting upright. His brown heavy lidded orbs sauntered a short distance before he was closing them once more. He released his bedspread and pressed his palms into his forehead. He pummeled it over and over again, trying to get the nightmare to disperse. "Go away," He mumbled between clenched teeth, his body starting a steadily rocking motion. He continued whispering that to himself but it wasn't helping. He knew that it wasn't real, yet it didn't make it any less frightening.
