Deeper"Talking to you is like talking to myself. You're the only one who's ever understood me, the only one I've ever let my guard down with."
Imani fell back into her bare twin sized bed with a soft thump. She blew out a breath, sending her hair flying away from her forehead. She swatted it and placed the unruly strands behind her ear as she scoot herself towards the wall. She peered around the quaint space, taking in the changes that were more apparent since she'd gathered her things. She was moving out of the room that she and Brianna shared for the past few months. She couldn't take the constant disrespect and knew it would only escalate more over time. She'd been staying with Bella for awhile because her roommate was never in. The housing department finally found somewhere else to put her because apparently someone else was having the same problem she was.
It was almost crazy how things seemed to change in just a little under a month. She'd lost a best friend and gained a new one – one that she was sure she could trust with her life. She smiled at just the thought of him, quickly reminding herself that she was supposed to be calling him. She pulled her phone free of her sweatpants pocket and scrolled through her contacts. She clicked "Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde" and pressed it into her ear. It was an inside joke they shared between each other since she never knew who she was getting. Her eyes traced the white ceiling as she listened to the continuous ringing.
"Lyr, hold on. I'ma put you on speaker."It was Beautiful and she only knew it because he'd developed the habit of calling her Lyr instead of Lyric. She liked the nickname so she didn't mind the different variations of it. "Alright. I'm back."He seemed further away from the phone. There was a crashing sound and laughter shortly after. "Sorry, I'm attempting to babysit Pride and make him something for lunch. He's not tryna cooperate with me though."He chuckled, faintly.
She smiled with a shake of her head as if he could see her. "I knew it was something with all that noise over there." She wrapped her arms around her legs before pressing her chin into her knees. "Anyway, what you want? You need something? I know you didn't just call for no reason at all, not that you couldn't though. Still, people usually don't just call to hear each other breath..."He was correct in his assumptions and hearing him ramble on about it made her grin widen.
She sighed, "Beau, you're talking like a mile a minute. You're right."They burst into laughter. He quickly apologized and cleared his throat. "Seriously though, I finally got somewhere else to room. You promised you'd help me move my things when it was time."
"You sure that was me? Cause I mean..." There was a smile evident in his voice.
She chortled, rolling her eyes, "Yeah, it was you. Even if it was Storm or River, I still count them as you."
"Fine, when do you need me?"
"Wait..."He hesitated, "Hold on, don't answer that yet." The phone went mute for a few moments before he came back laughing. "You're in luck my granddad finally showed up. If you want me to come now then I can."He rendered, his chuckling subsiding some. "Okay, good. We can spend quality time together."She joked while clapping her hands giddily, rocking from side to side.
She could truly say she enjoyed being around him. "And I'm the off one. Yeah right..."He taunted jovially. His sense of humor only amused her more. "You and all other sides of you are going to stop telling me that I'm crazy. I've had enough of it."She fussed playfully, rolling over so that she could lay on her back. "When you stop acting like it, we'll stop pointing it out."Beautiful countered, teasing her again. "Yeah, whatever bye. Come ready to work."
"I didn't sign up for this..." He groaned, that being the last thing he said before the dial tone followed. She smirked and put her phone back in her pocket. She pushed up and slid herself to the edge of the bed. She still had a few other things to take care of before Beautiful arrived. She needed to get down to the housing department and make sure that everything was correct. She didn't understand why they couldn't do it over the phone, but as long as she was getting out of Wellington Hall she was fine.
