The golden rays of the sun passed through the Great Oak's leaves. Flowers of all sorts bloomed. The gentle breeze passed through every home in the world of the faeries. A new faerie was born. Every home was emptied as all of them went to greet the happy parents. It was a healthy baby with hair as if made of gold and eyes as blue as the ocean. He was named Fane as he was different than the others. Instead of a cry, the boy was laughing.

A few yards away from the forest, there was a cottage. In there, lived a happy couple. The woman had also given birth to a baby girl with brown hair and forest green eyes. She was named Mirth. She grew up to be a very beautiful child.

Four years had passed and it was their birthday again. The girl grew very tired of all the greetings and the gifts she had received from her family and neighbours. She snuck out of her house through the back door. Her parents wouldn't notice at all. As a child, the adventurous side of her was dominant so, she went in to the forest in spite of what scary stories her parents would make up for her. The sun was high up on the sky, the creepy monsters wouldn't dare come out in broad daylight. That's what she thought.

The forest was lovely and the trees were so tall. She had never felt so free in her entire life. She loved the smell of nature and enjoyed all the new things she had seen. There were so many things to see that she hadn't noticed how far away she had been from her home. She was preoccupied about everything that she bumped into what she thought was a tree. The moment she looked up, she was met with a pair of oceanic blue eyes. "Pretty." She blurted out without thinking. Then, her eyes landed onto something she hasn't seen before- wings. A pair of faerie wings on the boy's back. "Faerie!" She exclaimed, remembering all the picture fantasy books she had read.

"Human?" The boy blurted out. Mirth, not knowing what a human was, corrected him, saying, "Girl. I'm a girl. You're a faerie!" She said happily, congratulating herself. Then, she looked confused because she saw the boy looking scared. "What's wrong?" she asked, picking herself up and walking towards him. As she stepped forward, he stepped backward. Afraid that he was going to run away, she stepped backward. Then, the boy stepped forward. An idea came to mind. She took three steps forward and then moved two steps backward. The boy did opposite. She was enjoying the little dance they had that she hadn't noticed that she was going to stumble on a rock. Before she could completely fall, the boy caught her.

"Careful." He muttered and then let her go as soon as she regained full balance. "Thank you." She smiled. "My name is Mirth. What's yours?" She never had a friend about her age. Most of her acquaintances were all middle aged villagers. She took this as an opportunity to mingle with her age group. The boy had also thought the same.

"I'm Fane." He smiled at her. This was the beginning of their friendship. Both of them had found out a lot of things in common: their age, their birthday, likes and dislikes, and even the meaning of their names! Both of them got along very well in just one day. Before she knew it, the sun was already starting to set. The boy had noticed it. He wanted to spend more time with his friend but he also knew the rules of their little village. "It's time for me to go." He finally said. The girl's eyes grew wide as she remembered her parents.
