Marley

The worst part about not sleeping is the extra time you get for thinking. Their kiss, what he said tonight and the fact I can't leave this stupid place sucks.

Why am I falling for a man who put me in this position? Why haven't those feelings gone? I can't be with someone who lied to me for this long.

I wander away from Adam and slip outside of Trent's house. His backyard is beautiful with the silver moonlight highlighting the pool and the beautiful flowers around the yard.

The back door opens and Trent wanders outside, half asleep. He sits beside me on the grass and curls his knees to his chest.

"Can we talk?"

"Nothing you say will change what's happened."

"I know."

"What's the purpose of talking?"

Trent sighs as he rests his chin on his knees.

"You should check on Adam. I don't want him choking on vomit in his sleep."

"Okay."

Trent

Adam stirs as I close the bedroom door.

"Do you have any painkillers and water?"

"I can bring you some."

I wander into the kitchen and find the painkillers and a bottle of water. Adam takes the water and chugs the entire thing, then smiles.

"Thank you."

"We need to clean my mother's car today."

"Shit, right."

"Perhaps she'll forgive us if we wash the outside and detail the inside."

"Sounds like a good plan."

"Get some rest and we'll do it later."

Adam slides under the blanket and I chuckle. Despite not drinking that much, I still feel like shit, so I return to bed but sleep doesn't return.

Marley's upset face haunts me when I close my eyes. I stare at the ceiling but Adam's snoring is horrible. I jump out of bed and change into something else. I head down the hallway and find Marley.

"You never gave me a chance to explain."

"You put me in a coma, I don't think I'm missing anything."

"How about we focus on getting you back into your body?"

"You heard Adam, there's a thin chance that'll happen."

"Are you hearing yourself?"

"One of us needs to be realistic, Trent."

"Marley." I glare.

"Once I accept that I'm basically dead, the sooner I can move on."

"You're alive. Keep fighting for it."

"I'm tired of fighting."

"You've come too far to give up."

Marley wraps her arms around her body and crouches down.

"I want to go home." She sniffles.

"We'll get you home, don't worry."

I sit in front of her and reach out. Her hand floats through mine, but the small gesture must comfort her because a small smile appears on her lips.

The bedroom door opens and we gasp.

"Are you okay?"

I jump up and nod.

"Yeah, I thought I saw a bug on the floor."

"Alright?" He frowns.

"Are you ready to start cleaning?"

Adam groans, but nods.

"I'll grab the cleaning supplies and meet you outside."

Marley wanders down the hallway while I force myself to the laundry. I'll be no help if my mother murders me for what Adam did to her car.
