I left my wedding present on the table, going to the right, which was the groom’s family and friends. Rob was an old family friend and I was here with my mum and Gemma, they followed my lead. I could feel eyes on me as I sat in the middle of the seats and tried to grab less attention. This was supposed to be Rob and Katie’s day, not mine. I didn’t want the attention just because I was Harry Styles.
Minutes turned into an hour, and I’m surprised at how early we actually were to the church as more people file into their places until Rob and his best man take a stance at the alter, and then the priest beckons for us all to stand.
First two small children go down the isle, and Rob smiles happily as they pass him and then a young girl who looked around 15.
What I didn’t expect was the beauty that walked down next.
Pale white skin, only a natural glow on her face as she smiled broadly, her smile startlingly bright, peach dress that went down to the floor and holding onto the bouquet of flowers in her hand. I wanted nothing more than for time to slow down as she came into line with my row, and I wished for time to stop completely when she turned her head and I swear she looked at me.
Blue eyes that seemed to captivate the world with one look. Sunny blonde hair, everything about her, it made this untouchable aura that she seemed to give off. Nothing could take away her smile, the glow on her cheeks, nothing could change her and nothing could touch her. It was completely infatuation at first sight.
I hadn’t even taken a second glance at the bride as I watched her take her stance at the alter, this girl, an incredible girl on a first look had completely hooked me.
It turned out, it was Kate not Katie as I had thought, and I cheered with everyone else as Rob and Kate were married, and threw confetti over their heads as the whole wedding party walked towards the reception which was a short walk away. It was great, walking in the summer sun with my mum and sister, I hadn’t seen them in so long and I was glad that we were able to come to the wedding only a few days after the last world tour had ended.
I sign an autograph for a young Bridesmaid as she waits for the couple to arrive back at the reception. I want to ask the younger bridesmaid what the other girl’s deal was. Her name, what was her name? But I didn’t want to hear it secondhand, I wanted her to tell me. I wanted to march right up to this beautiful girl with the sunny blonde hair and beautiful smile and I wanted to ask her for her name, to hear her giggle like music to my ears and then whisper her name in my ear, that I would be the only one to know.
I bided my time, more teenage girls came up to me, begged for pictures, and of course I happily obliged to signing pieces of paper and smiling for the cameras. It was the least I could do.
I walked across the floor, towards the large table, I was so close to her, as she turned around and finally, she looked at me. I felt the pitter patter of my heart from just one look of this girl, I opened my mouth to speak.
Clink clink
Rob smiled at me, as if he knew I was about to talk to the girl, but I walked back towards where I was seated and Gemma laughed, as she too knew that I had gone up to the head table for a purpose; to talk to a girl.
“Thank you everybody for coming.” Rob thanks everyone as he stands to his feet with his champagne glass. “It’s so great to have everybody here for this special day, the day I finally got to marry the girl of my dreams, Kate.”
Zoning out was my specialty, and although I continued to watch Rob talk about how pretty his bridesmaids looked, and then Kate’s father took to his feet, and then listened to Rob’s best friend bring up dirt about Rob, and even I got a mention in the speech.
“Yes well, no wedding would be a wedding without Rob suddenly surprising us with how cool he is by inviting Harry Styles to his wedding.” Everyone laughed, and I laughed too, but my eyes glanced back towards the girl, who was also looking at me and laughing, showing off that gorgeous smile.
I swear when we locked eyes, there was an immediate connection that I couldn’t shake off. She was… indescribable in so many ways.
A three course meal later, Rob and Kate were dancing their first dance together as husband and wife, and my eyes were locked on the girl in the peach bridesmaid dress, dancing around with the small children of the party, even crouching down so one of the small boys could kiss her on the cheek as they began to dance together.
“Harry, stop staring and just go over to her.” Gemma orders, flicking her brown hair over her shoulders and nudging me in the sides.
“I need to say the right thing.” I tell her, still watching her as she attempts to twirl with the smaller boy. When the song ends, Gemma pushes me and I stumble forwards slightly, luckily no one sees and the girl is too busy talking to more of the small children that I have the element of surprise.
“Hey.” I say, loudly enough over the noise that she looks up from the smaller children, up to me. Her eyes, they were grey and as I looked into them, I felt like my heart was going to explode from the fast heartbeats that I was experiencing. “Can I… uh… have this dance? Will your other dance partners mind?” I ask, looking down and they all shake their heads, before I look back to her and raise my eyebrows and hold my hand out to her. The girl sighs, but it’s a happy sigh and she takes my hand before I lead her closer towards the other couples dancing, and then, we dance.
