"Every family must report to the CCC (Central Command Center). There you will receive your hub number, schedules, suits, and ID. Everyone above the age of ten is required to have your ID on at all times. Also, you will be sharing a hub with another family, fights will not be tolerated".
I walk into the CCC with wonder. What will my rooming family be like? What do they mean "suit"? I began wondering about Scar , when I hear a high pitch squeal. I turn around only to be body slammed by Lacy.
"Omg Emmy I've missed you like so much."
"Calm yourself child! Seriously the rules are super strict here, and we don't need to get into trouble, now do we?"
"Sorry, I'm just happy to see someone I know."
She goes on to tell me about the family she's sharing a hub with. It's two parents and daughter our age. Apparently, the daughter is totally down to Earth (haha, pun intended), and even though she's from India she speaks English.
"Your hub number is 11, here's your ID and schedule, and go to table 24 for your suit."
I looked at my ID which obviously wasn't the typical school ID. There was no picture of me or even my name, instead in large letters read "F 38". I noticed that in the bottom left corner was a microchip, probably filled with my medical information and records.
"Hi, uh, I'm Emerald Emerson. I'm here for my suit." I stutter out of slight fear.
"Scan your microchip." The lady at table 24 says with a smile plastered on her face.
After scanning my chip she handed me a black unitard. She must've saw the look on my face because she quickly said "This protects you from the harmful rays, and helps with keeping your temperature cool."
After about an hour of searching I found my hub. I soon realize someone got there before me.
"Hé, im Luke, agréable de vous rencontrer quel est votre nom ?"
"Emerald, Quelle partie de la France êtes-vous?"
"Woah, woah, calm down honey bun". I'm only in French 1."
"Aw darn your American, I was hoping for something interesting."
"Sugar pie, your living on Mars, how could it get more interesting?"
"So where are you from?"
"Memphis, Tennessee. What about you sugar plum?"
"STOP WITH THE NAMES PLEASE! And I'm originally from Arkansas, but I moved to D.C. last year."
"Well sugar pie, I have to change into my suit so I suggest you step out, unless you care to see me naked."
A small blush creeps up my face, so I just put my head down and leave the hub. I search for another 30 minutes to find Lacy's hub.
"Hey Emmy, you should probably put your suit on."
"I guess, can I change in your hub though?"
"Yeah, I'll guard the entry for you."
I finish changing and take out my schedule to compare it to hers. We soon realize we have the exact same schedule, how exciting!
6:30 Breakfast
7:00 Farming
8:00 Weapon training
9:00 Hand to hand combat
10:00 Break
11:00 Mars 101
12:30 Lunch
1:30-6 Free time
6:00 Dinner
10:00 Lights out
"Hello, I'm Lilly! You must be the famous Emerald I keep hearing about!"
"Uh, yeah, that would be me. So Lacey tells me your from India, that's so cool."
"Yeah I guess it's pretty cool, but I'm sure America was just as cool. I could tell you about India sometime if you would like."
Our conversation was broken up by a voice on the speaker. " Every one is expected to be in the CCC in 10 minutes."
"I guess I'm going to go find Luke, I'll see you guys there." I say this as I began leaving their hub.
"Who's Luke?" Lacy says a little to excited.
I winked at Lacy and left her hub, leaving her with many questions I'd have to answer later.
I was almost back at my hub when I saw the last person I ever wanted to see.
"Hey Emerald, you can't escape me this time."
And.... That's a wrap! I can't believe the first chapter is already done! I left you guys on a bit of a cliff hanger... Don't get to mad because my next chapter will be up the Friday!
