Collin's POV:

I'm kind of curious as to why she's asked me out of the blue how much I love her. Has she been wanting to ask that question as much as I've been wanting to ask her?

I don't quite understand her sometimes. It's like her thoughts have moods. One day she's just a friend the next day she has me wondering if she feels the same. The feeling of being lead on is destructive but let's face it.

No one refuses affection from the one they love. It's hard to resist.

It takes one look and a few words for her to daze me.

"I-I'm so sorry."

"Don't be."

"What?"

"It was nice. I kind of needed it after today. It was a friendly kiss."

"Yeah, yeah a friendly kiss."

"A kiss won't get me pregnant, yeah?"

The two of us burst out into laughter and I then reach for the remote and playfully lay back and rest my feet on Avery's lap.

"Jesus, your feet smell worse than Heidy's cooking."

I start to laugh uncontrollably. It kind of feels like the early days of our friendship. I start to think back to the time where we were in about year 6 and we were at this park down the road from where we used to live.

The sunlight was so vibrant at sunset and all the orange, pink, and purple light rained over us. It was beautiful. Avery wanted me to chase her. Her laugh hasn't changed. I ran after her getting closer and closer within seconds until I finally caught her.

I remember me breathlessly saying

"Can I have a kiss?"

"But that's what grown ups do silly!"

"You don't have to be a grown up monkey face."

"Fine."

She took both of my hands, my eyes grew bigger as I had never been kissed. Her pig tails were flowing on either of her shoulders. She poked out her lips and I did the same. Our lips touched for a brief second.

"Avery! Avery love it's getting dark time to come inside!"

I could hear her mother call from down the road.

Avery smiled, a gap in her top row of teeth. She waved and ran home to her mother who waited patiently for her.

I smiled from ear to ear experiencing my first kiss with the girl I'm still in love with years later.

"Collin? You alright there?"

She snapped me out of a pleasant flashback.

"Yeah yeah. I just kind of zoned out."

"I could tell by that rather creepy grin you had on your face."

She giggled, teasing me.

Avery reaches for the remote and shuts off the T.V.

"What did you do that for? That was my favourite part."

She shifts her body so she's facing more towards my direction.

Her facial expression changes.

"Let's play a little game. Do you drink?"

"Do I look like a guy who likes soft drinks?"

She observes my tattoos and my messy hair.

"Well you do look a bit rough."

She gets up from the couch and walks toward the kitchen. She grabs two shot glasses from the high cabinet.
