I wasn't sure what to expect when Lucy and I stepped out of the car. To be honest, I thought it would be like the movies; you know, where everyone becomes silent and stares? Well, that definitely wasn't the case.
"Do you see that girl with Lucy?"
"She looks like a slut."
Nice. I'm wearing the same thing as you, hence the term 'uniform'.
"She's smoking hot, man!"
"Totally bang-able."
Men. Were. Pigs.
Hiding my face in my hair, I kept my eyes toward the ground. "Is everyone always so judgmental?" I whispered to Lucy, praying that nobody stepped in front of me. No way would I see them coming.
Lucy scoffed. "Most of the time, yes. You get used to it."
I sighed, deciding that I would just have to accept my fate as the new girl. I held my head up, determined not to show them any weakness. However, that all came to a halt when Jason, Lucy's brother, stepped in front of us.
"Hey Lucy!" Jason looked me over, openly checking me out. "Hello again, Willa."
I gave Jason a small wave and a timid smile. I had nothing against him, he was actually really cool. But he was Jason's best friend, and was always around him. Always.
Which was why I had stopped going around to Lucy's, much to her dismay.
"Jason, will you stop checking out my friend and go hang out with your sluts?" Lucy said sluts in a disgusted tone. I guess I would too, having to watch girls fling themselves at him.
Jason rolled his eyes. "I was just making sure that Willa wore her uniform to standards." He looked me over again, smirking. "She is, though, her skirt could be shorter."
I blushed as he winked at me, turning and walking away towards a group of people. They were a mixture of guys and girls, but thankfully, he wasn't amongst them.
"Ugh. He's such a horn dog! I wish he would get over his stupid crush on you." Lucy flipped her hair behind her shoulder, grabbing my hand and dragging me towards a different group of people.
"Jason does not have a crush on me, Lucy! He flirts with every girl." I rolled my eyes at her, knowing full well that her brother would never like a girl like me.
"Whatever you say, Willa! Anyways, these-" she gestured towards the group that she had dragged me over to, "are my friends!"
There were only three of them, two male and one female, but they were all equally attractive. 'Was everyone attractive at this school?' I thought to myself.
"Willa, this is Nate, Jack, and Luna. Guys, this is Willa."
They all waved, and I gave a timid wave back. "Nice to meet you."
"It's great to have a new girl around! Lucy was getting a bit boring." The guy named Nate teased. He was tall, about 6 foot, with blonde hair and blue eyes. The typical 'American boy' type.
"Ha ha, Nate. I'll show you boring." Lucy went to punch him, but Nate gripped her fist in his hand, catching it as if it were nothing. My eyes widened.
"Now Luce, if you wanted to hold my hand, all you had to do was ask!" Nate winked at her, but Lucy only rolled her eyes, pulling her hand away.
Someone coughed, and I glanced over to see Luna smiling at me. "It's surprising that you're here, actually. Parkwood doesn't get a lot of new students." Lucy shot her a look, but Luna ignored it. "I just hope you don't fall into the hands of the Al-" she coughed, "I mean, the 'king' of the school." Luna's lip curled in disgust at the word king, and Jack started massaging her shoulders. It was obvious that they were a couple.
"There's a king of the school?" I asked, surprised. I had read about those things in books, but never thought it to be true. I mean, I went to public school. Maybe things were different here?
Before she could respond, a loud bass came into hearing, and I turned, watching as a silver corvette pulled into the parking lot. The top was up, but I knew that it was someone important, since a crowd of people suddenly appeared next to his car.
The door opened, and I stilled, the figure of someone I knew all too well coming into focus. A blonde grasped his arm as he stood, not giving him any time before locking her lips to his. It was as if my heart was breaking again, and I felt someone come up next to me.
"Willa, maybe we should go..." Lucy's tone held, not pity, but sadness. She knew my story of heartbreak, but had assured me that we wouldn't even go near him.
I felt myself nod, but before she could pull me away, he looked over, eyes hardening as he caught sight of me.
The tears rested in my eyes, but refused to fall as I watched him let go of the girl who had obviously wanted him. I shook my head, I wouldn't let him see me weak.
I sniffed, rubbing at my eyes before holding my head high and turning to walk with Lucy to get my schedule. I wouldn't let him see me cry, he wasn't worth my tears.
Jack, Luna, and Nate all gave me confused and worried glances.
I forced a smile though, "Don't worry guys. I'm just being a little too emotional." I shrugged, "Probably just nerves getting to me."
The doors to the school were only a few feet away when he spoke to me for the first time in three years.
"Willa, wait!"
