Zoe finished killing the last locust that had been bothering all day. She set the book back down on her desk and leaned tiredly against the wall. The locusts had come in the morning and Zoe had spent all day inside the house where she was safe(r).
Even then, some locusts had managed to make their way inside the house. That was how she had ended up spending her last hump day in her room killing bugs instead of school, where she was supposed to be.
Zoe glanced down at the crumpled pieces of paper covering her desk. She sat down and took another clean piece of paper. By then, she had already figured out what the last plague was going to mean. To give the girl some credit, she was ready to meet me.
