"No!" Charlie screamed.
"You don't get it. You don't understand how much you hurt me and I don't think you ever will."
"I'm sorry." Adam whispered. "I'm so sorry."
"You think that makes it better?!" she says helplessly.
"It doesn't change what you did. It doesn't make all the pain go away. It doesn't just erase all the bad. You don't get a clean slate. I have the right to decide that. I get to tell you no."
She stops to collect herself and takes a breath. She looks at the man she loves the most in the world and all she can see is hurt.
Shakily, she speaks. "You made a choice...and this one is mine."
Then she walks away.
He is left to suffer from the repercussions of his mistake. He backs up against the wall with defeat and slowly slides down its surface until he is seated on the floor. Written across his face is the regret. But she was right, it was her choice. He had to let her go. It was his mistake, not hers. He owed her this much.
