I lug my suitcase into the hotel. My parents are a bit further behind me. They're going slower because they aren't as excited as I am to be here. They don't care when they get inside. I pull my phone out and turn on the camera app.
"Well, here we are at our lovely hotel!" I exclaim, starting to film. "We're here in Anaheim, California, for VidCon 2013, and man, I am pumped!" I peruse the lobby with the camera. "Come on, Mom, let's go check in! I can't wait!"
My mom rolls her eyes at my dad. "Teenagers," she groans. But hey, what is she blaming me for? She was the one who had let me have that big bag of M & Ms on the airplane! She only has herself to blame for all my energy.
Mom and Dad check us in while I talked to the camera. I just hit the 50,000 subscriber mark on my channel, and, to describe it in one word, it's awesome. "So, we're here at the awesome Mariott Resort in Anaheim for VidCon 2013, like I said earlier. I'm super excited to be here. It's so awesome here. I'm going to upload yesterday's vlog, and then I'm going to go to the courts with my dad to play some Round Robin."
"Hey, who said that I was going to play Round Robin with you?" my dad calls. He laughs. "Just kidding. Sure, we'll go to the courts later."
I'm somewhat of a tennis freak. My favourite parts of tennis are the tournaments, and I also love to play Round Robin. My dad is really good at it.
"We're going to the room!" Mom announces. "Hurry up, or we'll leave without you!"
"Hey!" I exclaim running after them, still filming.
"I wonder how many YouTube stars we'll see here," Mom comments. "I don't know any of them, so you'll have to point them out."
"Don't worry, I'll know them when I see them," I assure her. "I've seen their videos enough times that I'll know them by sight."
I decide to watch a recent Jenna Marbles video, which was a questions video called "Questions #4." I hadn't seen it yet because I hadn't had time.
"So, for those of you who will be looking for me at VidCon, I will not be there, because my brother's getting married!" Jenna exclaims.
"Dammit!" I cry. I was looking forward to meeting Jenna. She's one of my favourite YouTubers, 5th in line after the Shaytards, Bratayley, Pewdiepie, and Smosh. "Damn."
"Language," my mom warns me.
"Sorry," I mutter. "I just found out that my 5th-favourite YouTuber won't be here this week."
"Well, your other four will be, so is that really a hardship?" my mom asks.
"You don't understand!" I exclaim. "I love Jenna Marbles. Yes, she might be a teensy bit inappropriate and yes, she might swear 60% of the time, but she's freakin' awesome. At least the Shaytards will be here! I'm so excited to meet them!"
In case you couldn't tell, the Shaytards are my very favourite YouTubers ever. I've been subscribed for years now. Since 2010, to be exact, but back then, my channel wasn't big enough to let me go to VidCon 2010 or VidCon 2011 or 2012, but now, at 50,000 subscribers, I'm finally popular enough to come to VidCon 2013.
We arrive at our room. It's freakin' huge! There are two seperate bedrooms and an office, where I can set up my laptop- a Toshiba 2012- and edit my videos.
I unpack my suitcase and set my laptop up in the office. I turn it on and open up Windows Live Movie Maker. I yawn. I'm exhausted. I just sat through a two-hour flight from the Vancouver International Airport to the John Wayne Airport in Orange County.
No, I won't go to sleep. I'm not a napper. Even though I do sometimes get very tired during the day, I'm not the kind of person who naps. Besides, I really have to edit yesterday's vlog.
I transfer the footage from my Documents to Windows Live Movie Maker and arrange it in the order I want it in. I add music where necessary, and press 'Upload to YouTube'. I enter the password for my channel and name my video. It's called, "Impatience Sucks!"
It's now around 7:30 pm, and my parents are getting ready to crash for the night. Maybe I should, too. Hmm... go to sleep, or wait for the vlog to upload? When I yawn, I know my choice has been made.
I leave my computer on so the vlog can upload, and I go to my room and change into my pajamas. When I check on my parents to say goodnight, they're fast asleep. I laugh silently.
I take a Rice Krispie Square from one of the cupboards in the kitchen and quickly eat it. I then head to the bathroom and brush my teeth. I put my hair in a quick braid and turn the suite's lights off.
I turn off the light in my bedroom and turn on the lamp. I pull out The Hunger Games, the book I'm reading, and open it to the page I'm on. I jump in bed and snuggle under the covers.
I read about a chapter and a half before slipping into sleep.
When I wake the next morning, I'm ecstatic when I realize that today's the day. Today is VidCon!
I wake my parents up, overcome with excitement. They change into their casual clothes, while I take care to put on jean shorts and a Shaytards t-shirt. I really hope that I can meet them today.
I fix my hair into a nicer braid than the one I had last night, and I do my makeup. I sling my purse over my shoulder and put on my white sandals.
"I'm ready to go!" I announce loudly.
"Finally!" my Dad teases me. "Let's go. Where is this taking place again?"
"At the Anaheim Convention Center," I remind him.
"Right," says Dad. "Let's go!"
"Dad, at 10:00, I have a meet-and-greet," I add. "I'm going to be taking photos and signing autographs for fans."
"Okay," says Dad.
We parade out to the car. Lots of people are heading to the Convention Center, carrying cameras and filming themselves.
I do the same as all of them. "Now we're headed to VidCon! I'm so excited to meet all of you guys!" I exclaim. "Remember, there's a meet-and-greet at 10:00 near the third entrance!"
I jump into the car and buckle up my seatbelt. I can't believe it. This. Is. Really. Happening. I am going to VidCon.
