I looked up in amazement. How was this place still running? My eyes scanned the old, falling apart building that sat before me. It was hard to believe that this was where I had spent almost my entire life until this moment. I left exactly 3 years and 46 days ago. I was now old enough to adopt, but I didn't want a child. There was only I had ever wanted; a little brother. Someone to look after and give advise on girls without anything being weird; that was exactly why I was returning today.

As I walked in through the old, dusty doors, memories came flooding back. For a while I just stood there, taking it all in. This was the place I had grown up in, called home. All my friends who had come and go; all the memories they left behind. Everything was so strong. While I was caught up in my thoughts, I didn't notice the quiet footsteps approaching me.

"Melody?" A soft voice called my name, although I recognised it instantly. My eyes met hers and I soon was engulfing her in a hug.

"Mrs. Jennifer!"

"What brings you back here?"

"Well you know how I always said that someday I would come back and adopt? Remember how I promised to you that I would?"

"Yes, Hun, yes you did."

"Well here I am!"

"But are you old enough? A child of your own is a lot of responsibility!"

"Mrs. Jennifer! You know how responsible I am.. Plus you know how long I have been preparing for this! Plus no I am not old enough to adopt a child, yet. My birthday is in two weeks; then I will be old enough."

"Melody... I don't know about this. Your still a little young to be a mother!"

"Well, I wasn't really planning on being his mother. The contracts say parent OR guardian. I can be his big sister or his guardian!"

"Okay.. But I hope you know where your going with this whole guardian thing."

"Oh I do! I have it all planned out up here!"

I pointed up to my head with my finger, causing a laugh from Mrs. Jennifer. I couldn't wait until my birthday; from there I could start the family I never had. And I promised myself to never let this child be hurt. He would always be safe, for I wouldn't be just his guardian, but his guardian angel as well.
