"Oh?!? This is the first we've heard of this! And who might this lucky man be, may I ask?" The announcer pounced on the Intel.

'Don't do it...' I sighed, rubbing my neck.

"His name is Lord Caleb Johnson." She said easily.

'Fuck my life...'

--- Day 133 AD, 08:15---

The crowd began murmuring, most in recognition, and some in shock, and even a few in confusion.

She cleared her throat, and they quieted. "Now, let's move on, yes? I'm eager to watch the matches, all of them. I confess, magic has always fascinated me." She giggled sweetly.

'You little actress... Heh.'

"Oh! Yes, indeed. Referees, please begin the selection!" He responded.

The referee nodded. "Yes sir. Alright! This will be a tournament, you know that, so each of you will fight a minimum of one match, and if you lose, you drop out of the tournament."

There were a few grumbles, but they were quickly squashed.

"If you win, you move to the next tier. There are four tiers of competition. At the Fourth Tier, there will be only two competitors left from the original 32, and the Winner will be declared the Champion."

'I will attempt to be that champion... I won't settle for less.'

"Afterward, the observing Council will grade you and announce your final result later on, despite your level of completion. The first Tier of matches will begin shortly. Prepare yourselves."

I started stretching, breathing deeply. My name was matched with one I didn't know, and soon I traced my way to the top. I was sure that Tizzy wouldn't meet me at the top, which made me sad, but it was alright. I didn't want to hurt her anyway. And Ira... Well, I'd meet her in the finals, I think.

I was the third match, so I waited in the Pit with the others, while my gauntlet became a projector and showed us the view Gem was showing on the other monitors.

I watched the images closely, observing the first match with half my focus, mostly focusing on my opponents.

The match ended, with a swift victory, and a concussive blast I felt even in The Pit. He went to the victors box, and the second match was called.

--- 10:15 ---

The second match actually lasted quite a while, as both mages were exceptionally skilled, and equally matched. They eventually slipped, both exhausted, and one was knocked out by a weak concussion that threw him into the wall.

We all cheered, as that match had caught our attention.

I was called, and I cracked my neck, leaving my gauntlet where it was so everyone could see, and then jogged out of The Pit.
