3. little one

Once I made it outside no one else was there, I just stood on the bridge looking up into the sky. I began to think about what this summer holds, which was many beatings. Why do I have to go through this, why me? I questioned. I could end it all right now, right here. I began to step onto the bridge to stand on the edge. This is it.

"I'm sorry, Mommy, I don't mean to fail you, I just can't do it anymore," I said crying.

Then I stepped off....

~~Lucas's POV~~

I saw Thalia standing on the edge of the bridge and I heard her whisper the words I can't do this anymore. I realized what she was doing and ran over to her, just as she stepped off.

~~Thalia's POV~~

"What are you doing," I yelled through my tears at Lucas, angry at him for catching my arm and pulling me back up.

"Not letting you kill yourself," he yelled.

"Why do you care? You don't even really know me," I questioned my voice still raised.

"Yeah well I want to get to know you. And I also know that if you killed yourself, you'd be killing Maddy too," he said.

I never really thought about hurting anyone else... The realization hit me like a bullet, of what I was about to do. Maddy would have been devastated, she wouldn't know what to do.

I began crying because of what I almost did. We sat on the ground, Lucas holding me in his arms and rubbing my back while whispering that it was okay.

"Come on let's go," Lucas said helping me up off the ground.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"I'm taking you home, because you need to get some sleep considering what almost happened," he replied.

No I can't go home, my dad. Oh god what am I going to do.

"Wait Lucas, um do you think I could just come over to your place? I just remembered I left my keys to my house at home and my dad is out of town tonight," I said lying right through my teeth.

"Yeah sure, that's fine," he said. I sighed in relief, knowing I was in the clear tonight.

It was silent the whole way there. I looked out the window beginning to think about what would have happened if I actually jumped. I felt Lucas grab my hand and give it a little squeeze, because he noticed that I let some tears fall. I quickly wiped them away with one hand and left my hand in his.

We pulled up to an apartment complex and got out of the car and walked to his apartment in silence.

We walked in and I stood there while Lucas went to his room quick, I think. He came back with a shirt of his and some sweatpants.

"Here you go, you can change into these," Lucas said.

"Thanks Lucas," I replied quietly.

"You can take my bed, I'll take the couch," he said.

"What! No, it's your bed you can sleep in it," I fought back. He just sent me a look saying 'you're taking the bed, argument over' I nodded and followed him to his room.

"Goodnight Thalia," he said while giving me a kiss on the forehead.

"Goodnight Lucas," I said back. He turned around and walked out of the room and closed the door. I quickly changed into the clothes he lent me and put my dirty ones by his nightstand. I got into his bed and tried to make myself comfortable.

I tossed and turned for I don't know how long, not being able to sleep because I kept thinking of today. I don't know if it was the fact that I almost killed myself or that I just met Lucas today and I could tell I was already slowly falling for him or the fact that it was probably both.

I looked at the clocked and it read 2:36 am

I decided I would go see if Lucas was awake considering I couldn't sleep. I walked into the living room where he was suppose to be sleeping on the couch. When I walked out there I saw he was awake with his hands behind his head and staring at the ceiling.

I must have stepped on a loose floorboard or something, because the floor creaked causing Lucas to look over at me.

"Hey what are you still doing up?" he asked me softly.

"I can't sleep, um do you think you could come and lay with me till you know I fall asleep?" I asked him.

"Yeah sure," he replied as he got up. He began walking towards me and ushering to go to his room. But, I stood there frozen realizing he was shirtless. I quickly glanced at his toned chest and then snapped out of my trance and began walking to his room with him.

I got in bed and so did he. I laid my head on his chest, while he put his arms around me. As I slowly fell asleep he kissed me on the top of my head and whispered, "Goodnight, little one."

"Goodnight my hero," I whispered back.

I realized as I drifted into a deep sleep that I was falling for Lucas...
