The door began to unlock and my eyes were locked on the door handle as it began to swing open slowly. The same woman from my flashbacks was standing before me in her lab coat, holding the same file folder in her hands. She smiled at me, but it wasn't a warm and welcoming smile, it felt frozen and fake. I had somehow managed to fall asleep despite my hands being bound in front of me, I felt groggy and depleted of all my energy as I stared blankly at the stranger I once knew.
"Hello subject Fen, how are you feeling? It's good to see you again." I sat there in silence. My head was against the wall and a blank façade was facing her. She noticed my silence and began to speak again.
"I know you're not remembering much, we did our best to wipe away all your memories but keep your general knowledge intact. But, the brain works in mysterious ways. Do you remember who I am?" I kept silent, something about her aura didn't seem right, she felt sinister.
"If you don't answer my questions, how am I supposed to help you, Fen?" She smiled the same fake smile that she had walked into the room with; the same smile that she had had in my visions. I doubted that her version of help matched mine.
"How about we have you examined?" I jumped up at the words 'examined' as if I had heard those words leave her mouth many times before. She seemed taken aback as she stepped towards the door. She quickly regained her composure and continued out of the room whispering to the guards as she walked out.
"Make sure those cuffs are tight and follow me." The words were silent and adhering to orders, the guards came in and cuffed my hands in front of me as they shoved me out of the room and down the hall. My eyes wandered the blank hallways, the walls were laden with metal and brick tied together with windows that I presumed saw into rooms like the one I had just been in; the entire building was mimicking a prison and I was the prisoner.
We entered another room much like the holding cell, except they had taken time to give this one a bit more furniture. There was a metal table sitting next to a patient chair all in the middle of the room with two-way mirrors on either side of the room. I wondered how many people were standing on the other side of the mirrors just staring at what was about to ensue.
"Strap him into the chair and get Dr. Brooks, you know the protocol." The guards left the room after strapping me into the chair rather forcefully and soon entered an older man with dark hair that was beginning to grey at the edges, his face resembled the same sinister essence that her's did.
"Dr. Mills. How is he?" So that was the woman's name. Both Doctors, I presumed they had something to do with the Project Ragnar that everyone kept talking about. Dr. Mills walked over to the door as a glass cabinet was wheeled into the room and parked next to the metal table.
"He isn't speaking, but I presume that it's out of untrustworthiness rather than just inability to speak."
"Ah, where did they find him?" The whole being talked about as if you're not in the room thing was a bit annoying, but I let it continue. Words weren't going to leave my mouth until I knew where the hell I was and what was going on.
"Out beyond the safety zone. With subject number 67, actually."
"Did they put up a fight?"
"No, the guards said they just surrendered and obliged to getting into the truck. Whatever that means, I'm not sure." Dr. Brooks gave me a confused look, but maintained his composure as he watched Dr. Mills pull out two vials and a syringe. I wasn't sure what was going to happen, but the sense of desperation was covering the room.
"What is your plan, Dr. Mills?" Neither of these Doctors seemed to be in a higher power nor did either of them seem to have confident answers.
"We no longer have the government backing us on this. They have almost completely fallen apart, we can't waste any more time; it's precious. We need to see if he can still transform, Dr. Brooks."
