"So what's your brother like?"
You had laid half awake through the night due to the poor conditions of your new environment. When the morning light had shone through the one window on the ceiling, you didn't even try to move. You simply laid there for what felt like maybe 3 more hours until you heard Dean shuffling around, trying to find a comfortable place.
Now here you sat against the wall, tearing a small peice of paper to little shreds as you stared at the green eyed boy across from you.
"Oh Sammy?" Dean cocked his head a bit and stunned his fingers agains his knee. "Eh he's kinda nerdy. Really big into research and stuff. He's a good kid though." He gave a chuckle that turned into a sigh. You wondered why Dean didn't seem as worried as you were deep down. "Do you have any siblings?"
You looked up from your paper project and nodded, giving a small smile as you thought about your brother. "Yeah I have a little brother too." You sighed and tossed the last little bit of your paper to the side.
"His names Jacob but I always just called him Jay." People had always told you that he looked just like you. You both gained your fathers eyes and your mothers (y/h/c) hair. But you always thought he looked just a bit more like your mom. You fought like most brothers and sisters did but you both had a respect for each other at the same time. He had just turned 18about 4 weeks after you had your birthday.
"Hold still."
"(Y/N)..."
"Hush!"
"I look stupid!" The teenage boy before you gave a groan of annoyance as he fidgeted in the suit you had all but forced him into. Your freshly painted (fav color) nails stood out against the black tie as you adjusted its length.
"Oh shut up, mister dramatic. You look fine." You couldn't help but laugh at how annoyed he was. Considering to your brothers usual attire, which mostly consisted of hoodies and old jeans, you weren't surprised at the look you received. "I look like Uncle joe when he tried to be 'fancy-like'." He packed on a very southern drawl onto the phrase "fancy-like" and moved his arms like and old swing dancer.
You laughed again and rolled your eyes before standing back, tapping your chin. "Now let me get a look at you." Jay stumbled back slightly and threw his arms into the air before letting them drop back down to his sides. A grin found its way to your lips as you looked him over.
"This is stupid. Why are we doing this again?" He huffed and turned to look in the full length mirror nearby. "Because." You shrugged and turned to grab your cell phone, switching to the camera app. "Mom says she wants her boy to look dapper for his 18 year old photo shoot." You wiggled your fingers playfully for emphasis, dragging a small chuckle from the boy. He turned back to face you and shrugged.
"Eh I guess it's not so bad. I look hot!" He gave a grin and tugged at the jacket sleeves. You gave a snort of amusement and turned around to face him. You found yourself looking up at him. It was kind of funny to you. Just 2 years ago you used to call him shrimp but now he towered over you.
"I can't believe my baby brother is 18!" She said, adding a fake sappy cry at the end. Jay rolled his eyes but pulled you into a small side hug. "Yeah well I can't believe you leave for college in a week!"
A confused look crossed your face and you tilted your head. "Uhm there's a problem with your non belief there, Jay." You scoffed. "I've been going to college for the last 3 years."
"Yeah I know that!" He groaned, punching you lightly in the shoulder. "I mean your going for your last year! You're almost done, right?" Another smile appeared on his face. You smiled too. His smiles were always contagious.
You gave a happy sigh, snatching your purse from the table next to you. "Yep! And then its off to find an apartment to live in." You began to walk towards the door but something stopped you. You turned to see the smile was gone from your brothers face ad it had been replaced with a look of worry and uncertainty. "Jay? What's wrong?"
"So you won't be coming home...." Something stung your heart when you saw him this way. Your brother had always been pretty good at hiding his entities but at that moment he looked like a child who had had his favorite toy taken away and broken right in front of his eyes. A feeling of sadness filled you and you walked forward, arms crossed. "I'm not going far, Jay. Hell Im not even leaving the state."
"Yeah but you're leaving me." He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. He looked to the floor. "I know I'm being stupid but... What if when you move out for good, you never want to come visit? What if I only get to see you like twice a year of holidays? I'm just... I'm gonna miss you (Y/N)."
"Jay..." You sighed and pulled him into a hug. "I'm not gonna disappear okay?"
"Promise?" He asked with a small smile.
You gave a small smirk and held out your hand with only your little finger extended.
"Pinkie promise."
"He sounds like a good kid." Dean muttered, his eyes looking over you with curiosity. You could feel his gaze but you didn't really mind it. At least you had someone to talk to. Otherwise you'd be left alone with your thoughts, and that was never a good thing.
"Yeah he was... I just wish I could talk to him now, you know?" You looked up to have green eyes meet your own (y/e/c) eyes. Something clicked then, like he felt the same thing you did. You could feel just how much he missed his own brother and you sympathized. He did know.
In the midst of you're stare down with Dean you heard an echoing click followed by a bang. A rush of cold air rushed down the staircase and then silence. Dean looked from you to the staircase and back to you before placing a finger on his lips and pushing himself as far into the corner as he could. You however froze, staring at the staircase with wide eyes.
No one had come down those stairs yet, that you had seen. It isn't that you assumed the plates of stale food appeared on their own for the past few days but somehow you were still shocked at what you saw next.
