There once was a town and in this town at night between when darkness fell and sunup children were kept in windowless rooms and adults wore blindfolds. No one was allowed out. They did this out of fear, fear of who would be next... Also their fear was amplified by strange happenings. The town was built right next to a forest and strange things tended to happen after darkness took over. People who saw the dark beings or being, that wandered about at night would be gone the next day. Children and even adults had gone missing. Oh, wait I forgot to mention the teenagers. Did you not notice? Well if you didn't I would appreciate if you paid better attention. Teenagers had been warned when they were little not to go outside but when nothing ever happened to them they thought it just a superstition. Sometimes people in the town could swear that they heard screaming some nights. Some even say that the screams came from the dark beings or being, having successfully taken their next victim, but nobody knew for sure. Nobody had ever seen the creature or creatures and lived to tell the tale. Nobody knew how many there were, though there seemed to be dozens or even hundreds. At night you could hear the sound of branches breaking and giving way to whatever it was that ran past them. Well, whatever it was moved with great speed, fast enough all you could see if you saw it was a blur. Well that doesn't exactly matter because anyone who saw it went missing. Now I will tell you a story that happened in this very town. There once was a girl, her name was Samantha and she was seventeen years old. Though she preferred to be called Sam by her friends. Sam, unlike many others, believed in the "monster in the wood." She had good reason too. Her friend Peter had gone missing a few years before, they were best buddies and would hang out all the time, but one night Peter got a little curious as to why the children were not allowed in a normal room at night. He went outside and into the wood to see what he could find, Sam decided to wait at her house and hear back from him in the morning, but in the morning he was gone... One night a few weeks after Sam turned eighteen, she was with her friends and they were playing a game of truth or dare... It was Kim's turn to ask someone, Kim was one of Sam's friends. Sam was a well known girl throughout the town, with her kind being and gentle smile. Ever since the night Peter went missing, she had been different as if part of her was gone... Kim decided to ask Sam. "Sam, truth or dare?" she asked. "Dare!" Sam said, grinning from ear to ear waiting to hear her dare. Kim pondered for a moment to think of something she knew Sam would dare not do if her parents had known. "I dare you," she started, pausing to add effect, "to go into the woods for ten minutes and sing." Sam's eyes grew wide slightly and she didn't make a sound for a moment. "What's wrong Sam? Too chicken to take your dare?" Steve, a seventeen year old friend of Sam's, said in a mocking tone. Sam's face went mad, she immediately got up and went out the door. She was furious, you could practically feel it coming off her. As she reached the woods, however, her anger dropped turning into fear. She had lost her friend in the woods and hopped she would never have to enter. Do I really have to do this stupid dare? She asked herself in her mind. I can't let them think me a coward! She replied to herself. She walked a bit deeper and turned around, she could just see out of the woods, spotting the building her friends were waiting in. She took her phone out and set an alarm for ten minutes and she started singing.
