joanna and i were walking to the library. it's mid-june and it's already reaching mid eighties on my portable thermometer. joana is wearing cut shorts with a grateful dead tshirt. her light blonde hair is pulled into a careless bun atop her head. i'm wearing black jeans with rips in them and a white halter top. my curly hair is making my neck sweat and i curse the sun and the unbearable humidity.

once we reached the library, i let out a grateful sigh when i felt the cool draft of one of the ceiling fans. mrs.cole the librarian greets us both with a smile before looking back at the book in her hands.

it's awfully quiet, besides the sound of the fans above creaking every now and again. joana and i scan the shelves. she's looking for a platonic romance, while i'm searching for the horror. joana has ways been so interested in love. i think it's because her parents split when she was eight. her dad wasn't very faithful.

i scanned the shelves looking for stephen king. he's my absolute favorite author and i'd be damned if i couldn't at least find children of the corn or pet cemetery.

i slowly turned around to another shelf, but was caught off guard when a blonde boy with blue eyes was holding cujo in his hand.

"hi um," i smiled at him. i wasn't sure what to say. i'm always awkward around strangers. "where'd you find that?"

the boy smiled a bit and pointed to the shelf behind him. "stephen king," he replied."right there."

"thanks," i managed to return a small smile as i skimmed the shelf. i found the shining and decided I'd read that book again, for the fifth time.

"so uh, you like stephen king?" the boy asked me. i was a bit off guard when he asked the question, but i nodded my head. "yeah, yeah. i've been a fan since middle school," i giggled. "it's been a while."

"me too," the boy grinned. "hey uh, maybe we could read together or something -"

gosh, i wasn't sure what to think at that time. i never was asked to do anything with anybody, and especially not from a stranger. but he seems well to do.

"sure, that would be fun," i said. "i'm everly, by the way."

"i'm warren," he smiled. "so, I'll be seeing you around?"

"yeah yeah," i said. warren went over to mrs.coleman and checked out his book. i could hear joanna giggling softly behind me.

"ooh, do you have a date, ev?" she teased. "it seemed like you found a dreamy eyed star boy while you were looking at bloody books."

"dreamy eyed?" i raised an eyebrow towards her.

"mhhm. he was looking at you like how i look at pierre," she grinned.

"he doesn't even know me," i whispered as i handed mrs.coleman my book.

"you don't have to know someone to think they came from the moon," joanna said.
