i called ben after almost a week. he was almost too happy to hear my voice and asked me if i was busy saturday night. i told him no. he asked me to come to one of his gigs. i didn't think twice before saying yes and thinking joanna would call me a groupie.

i took nadia out to get her pet fish. she picked out a gold and white goldfish and named it sammy. all the way home she kept telling me she was gonna make cool things to put in his bowl. i, of course, felt like she's more responsible than me.

at home, i made nadia and i quesadillas and answered a phone call from mr.smathers, my painting instructor. he said summer classes started monday and i had to be there to learn all the new techniques and to secure a spot in the class. i've been learning under him since i was eight years old. he's taught me all my blending and my positioning and mt strokes. if it wasn't for him, i probably wouldn't know squat about painting right.

every summer, he has a panting class to help blooming artists become better. I've taken every single one since he's started it. each year there's new kids and sometimes there's the same kids who've been around since i started. the only kid i really remember is a girl named starla who wore too many flowers and always compared herself to van gogh. of course, her painting style wasn't near his, but we let her dream.

nadia and i spent much of the afternoon watching movies on our vhs. momma and dad both went out for a while.

in the middle of e.t when joanna showed up at my house with tanis. at first, i was surprised but second guessed it because joanna had been spending the past week with this girl. alexander thinks it's weird his sister likes a girl and their mom said whatever choices joanna makes will be supported by her.

i was kinda glad they came because they picked up at pizza. we munched on slices while we watched clueless. nadia went up to her room with sammy's bowl in her hands and artemis trailing behind her.

"so how's your sweet peach prince?" joanna asked as she held tanis' hand. i thought it was cute they way they held each other.

"he's good," i smiled. "he asked me to come to his gig saturday."

"sounds rad," tanis beamed. "maybe joanna and i can tag along to see what kinda music he plays."

"i think he plays grunge or something like that," i shrugged. "i never asked. but it seems like something he would play."

tanis, joanna, and i played monopoly while nadia sat on the couch and played with her barbies. we were all happy and having fun and i felt like this summer has already been good enough for me to brag about in school.
