My thoughts are running a mile a minute, fear poking at every nerve in my body.

Oh my Irene, Hyria's actually home. And she's looking for me. She'll slit my throat once she finds out I'm miles from the Sacred Forest! And freaking joined the Jury of Nine!

"Cassie? Are you mad?" Hyria asks. She purses her lips. "Come into view, Cassie."

Glancing to side to see a spare jacket on the rack, I shove it on my shoulders and come into view acting as innocent as possible.

"H-hey, Hyria!" I say, zipping my jacket to cover the Jury of Nine emblem on my chest.

Hyria's eyes narrow. "Are you in your room?" Her eyes dart from side to side as if she thought I wouldn't be.

I nod, avoiding eye contact completely. "Y-yeah! It's been super boring here, on the bright side, I set up an archery range in your potions room!"

"You WHAT?! Cassandra D'englo!!" Hyria gasps, her mouth widening. She closes her eyes and rubs her forehead with her left hand. "Okay, look Cassie. I know you're not at home."

"Whaaaaaaat?" I say innocently. "I'm totally at home! Been here the whole time! Practicing magicks... and... archery... and stuff."

Hyria lets out a sigh of annoyance. "Where are you, Cassie? And how did you manage to break my barriers? I guess they weren't the strongest, but I didn't expect you to run away."

"How did you know I wasn't at home?" I ask tentatively.

"That's not your jacket, and I can recognize that you're not in your room. So how did you manage to break my barrier?" Hyria asks. "And like I already asked, where are you?" She sounds surprisingly calm, although I think frustration is already brewing inside my godmother.

"Umm... I just walked through them," I say, rubbing my arm nervously. "I'm in O'khasis, Hyria."

"O'KHASIS?!" Hyria screams, almost shattering the orb. "WHY IN IRENE'S NAME ARE YOU IN O'KHASIS?! DO YOU KNOW WHAT FAMILY OWNS THAT KINGDOM?!" She sounds genuinely outraged, and my fear begins to grow.

"Um, yeah, the Ro'meaves do. Everyone knows that," I say, trying to give an innocent smile.

Hyria takes a very deep breath. "Who's jacket is that, Cassandra?" She closes her eyes for a brief second.

"What?" I ask, surprised. "Um, this was, uh, complimentary. The inn I'm staying at provided them for weary travelers."

"Weary travelers?!" Hyria cries. "It's a twenty minute walk!"

"Well, I guess the were feeling nice," I conclude. "Bye, Hyria. Have fun in Tu'la!"

"No!" Hyria freezes the orb, so I can't destroy it. Her power is far greater than mine. "Take off the jacket, Miss Cassandra."

"Whoa..." I stammer. "Hyria, I—"

"Surely you're wearing something underneath it. You must be. I'll say it one more time—what are you wearing under that jacket?"

"Just my clothes!" I shake my head rapidly. "I swear on Irene's life! My clothes. Normal clothes."

"By the way you're acting, I'd—" Hyria is cut off by the voice I dreaded hearing since she called me.

"Lady Cassie?" It's Lord Aaron of Falconclaw. "I haven't all day to wait around."

"'Lady Cassie'?!" Hyria repeats, dumbfounded. "Cassandra R—"

Gasping, I shatter the orb into thousands of tiny pieces. For some reason, Hyria doesn't recreate it or anything, she just lets me destroy it. My magicks are weak, so I've no idea why Hyria is just letting me destroy her communication orb.
