The sun was starting to rise as Lilac headed west, toward the grassy field. She was looking for prey, anything would help during the harsh winter season. A leaf landed on her nose, reminding Lilac that winter wasn't too far away.

She dodged a tall pine tree and jumped over a log. Leaves crunched under her feet as she walked briskly away from the forest.

And if she got lucky, maybe Lilac could find some poppy seeds! She wasn't very well stocked with supplies she would need in case she got a cut, or Blossom got hurt.

Lilac smiled, thinking of her mischievous littermate.

Blossom and Lilac were the only kits left after the dog attack. Her parents were killed and so was Quill, the only male littermate she had.

A twig snapped, shaking her out of her thoughts.

Lilac looked around. She felt as if she was being watched. She then continued her brisk pace. If she didn't work hard before sunset no good would come out of her trip.

     Another snap.

"Hello?" If something was out there she could handle it. At least, that's what Lilac told herself.

Leaves crunched as something approached.

"I'm warning you! Be careful!" Lilac called out, ears flattening.

Suddenly a dog emerged from the trees. It's tail shot up and it started running at Lilac with teeth bared.

No wonder I was easy to catch!! My brown pelt probably made me look like an oversized mouse!

Lilac spun around and shot out of the forest and into the field, the dog, hard on her tail.

The tall grass cut her face so Lilac slitted her emerald green eyes. Mice scrambled away as Lilac bolted with the massive dog slowly catching up.

"Dog!!!" Lilac howled, hoping that nearby cats would run away. She could handle this.

Just like Echo taught me! Lilac thought, thinking of her mother who had taught her to never back down, always stand up against the evil.

Well, Inferno taught me to be strong so I have to give him that!! Lilac thought, thinking of her father.

Then Lilac turned around again and faced the dog. Its eyes widened in surprise and it skidded to a stop.

"Fight me!"

The dog's eyes narrowed and a growl tore threw its throat. It lunged at her with wide gaping jaws.

Lilac turned to twist the other way but her paw got stuck on a root. "No!" She yowled as the dog's fangs got closer.

A moment before the dog grabbed her another cat flashed by.

This cat was golden brown with black stripes like bolts of lightning. She had burning yellow eyes and a teasing look on her face.

"Ha!! You thought you could get away you mutt!! Not without me getting you first!"

Then she ran swiftly around the dog and bit its tail. Then the mysterious she-cat jumped onto his back and scratched it's neck with talon like claws.
