Sam sighed, swallowing the lump in his throat, and getting out of the car. Staring up at the house he hadn't seen in a year, he debating whether or not to even walk up the steps and ring the doorbell. But against his mind's refusal, he did, waiting on the doorstep to see the woman he was still in love with.

And boy, was he in for a shock.

The door opened, and Jen stood with a baby on her hip, inhaling sharply, seeing the man she had pushed away, to focus all of her attention on the baby.

Sam looked between her and the baby, who was resting her head on Jen's shoulder.

"Hi," he managed to get out.

"Hi," she replied, opening the door wider and stepping aside, allowing him in.

"What's her name?" Sam asked, watching the baby lay on her tummy on the pink mat placed on the living room floor.

"Maria," Jen answered, her fingers wrapped around her coffee mug.

"Babysitting?"

Jen shook her head and Sam looked at her in confusion.

Then it clicked.

"How old?" he finally asked.

"Three months."

Sam looked at the tiny baby, his mind trying to answer a million questions at once. "Is she... mine?"

Jen nodded.

"Can I..."

Jen nodded again, knowing exactly what he was asking, and watched as Sam knelt down in front of Maria, taking her into his arms gently, and swaying ever so slightly from side to side.

Very faintly, Jen heard Sam whisper to their daughter.

"Hi Maria...

I'm your daddy..."
