I have to do this.

A million thoughts were flying through Dan's brain as he rushed out of his room. He stopped outside the lounge when he realised Phil was in there and decided he should say goodbye just in case it was the last time he got to see him.

"I'm gonna head out Phil," he said making his friend jump a little at his's sudden entry.

"Alright, where are you heading? Can I come with?" he asked with a smile.

"Eh, nah, there's no point I'm just going to the shops..." he mumbled hoping, for once, Phil wouldn't insist.

"Oh, okay," he sighed almost sounding... sad? No, why would he, "I'll see you later then."

"Bye Phil," he smiled sadly, making sure he caught his gaze just for a second.

I can't keep this up much longer. He shoved his shoes on, checked he had his phone and headed for the door.

It's for the best. The door slammed shut and he all but ran out of the apartment building.

You know it is.

After walking around shops for around an hour Dan finally decided he had built up just enough courage to send Phil a text:

Hey Phil. I've been trying to pluck up the courage and say this for a while now, well like four years really, and I still haven't really got enough courage because I'm texting you instead of saying it to your face, but anyway... There's no easy way to say this, well there probably is but when have I ever done things the easy way haha, anyway...  I like you, like properly fancy you plus a little (a lot) more and I kinda always have. You're really funny, nice, beatiful and generally an awesome guy. I couldn't have wished for a better friend so I pray to god this doesn't ruin our friendship, and yeah, I love you. x

Dan hit send with his teeth firmly lodged in his bottom lip and waited for Phil's reply as the next few minutes passed agonisingly slowly.

After walking around again for what felt like hours Dan felt his phone buzz. And as he slightly feared it was a text from Phil:

Hey Dan, I think we really need to talk... Come home asap :) x

He's not mad, I dont think, and he didn't say he wants to never see me again, and he put a kiss at the end.. that's all promising right? Please god...

Dan opened the door as quietly as possible and took as much time as he could to remove his jacket and shoes before slowly walking upstairs.
Phil was in the lounge as he had expected. Dan paused for a second to compose himself before walking in.
Phil turned around as he heard the door open and footsteps follow, "Hi," he smiled at the younger boy and patted the space next to him on the sofa, indicating for him to sit down, "Did you get anything nice?"
Dan sat in his normal spot on the sofa and faced Phil, "No, didn't get anything in the end..." he laughed awkwardly.
"Oh okay. Well I guess we should talk," Phil nodded towards his phone on the table.
"Yeah..." Dan focused his gaze on the hem of his tshirt and picked at a loose thread, "I'm sorry, I've made this really awkward now and you probably want me to move out, which is fine if you just give me enou..." he rambled quietly before being cut off by Phil lifting his chin gently so he was staring straight into his eyes. Dan noted how they were a stronger blue today instead of the grey-ish shade they were the day before.
"I love you too," Phil whispered.
Dan sighed and leaned forwards so their foreheads were touching and moved his hand to rest on Phil's waist.
They sat together like that, breath dancing across the other's skin, in a comfortable silence for a few minutes before Phil broke the silence with a whisper, so low that Dan barely even heard but he knew nonetheless; that was the nature of their relationship, sometimes they didn't have to say anything to each other because they both just knew; they could go days only speaking because they wanted to hear each other's voices.
"I really want to kiss you."
"I wouldn't stop you," the brunette whispered back just as quietly.
And just like that Phil connected their lips, four years of hidden emotion poured into one kiss, slow but passionate, needy but love filled.
They both noticed how their lips fit together so perfectly like a jigsaw.
Jigsaw. That's a good simile, Phil thought. The second his lips met Dan's ever so slightly rough ones he couldn't help but notice a little something in his heart, like the last piece of the puzzle clicking into place. He felt whole. All it took was one text.
