History class is such a drag.
Math class is such a drag.
Science class is such a drag.
School is such a drag.
Any genius would understand the boredom of being forced to sit in a classroom of restless children, listening to an adult blab about things you already know and heard.
The hands on the clock took their sweet time with every tick, perhaps it was a bluff.
The first week back from a summer of freedom, relaxation, and stress-free days was always the hardest.
Like returning to prison after a previous sentence ended, in a sense.
"Well everyone, since it's our first day back, I think we can all loosen up and get to know each other with a little game," Iruka Sensei said merrily. It was obviously artificial enthusiasm, soon to be confirmed.
"Games are for kindergarteners!" Kiba yelled from the back of the room.
"Yea! Why can't we start a brawl or something!" Naruto foolishly suggested.
"What a drag," I whispered to myself.
"No Naruto. No brawls. Everyone stand up!" The teacher forced out, extreme disappointment and frustration lining his words.
The sound of chairs grinding against the tiled floors reverberated through the overfilled room.
A slight murmur shrouded the classroom and Iruka clapped his hands to silence us.
"Well since a few of your classmates," he started, then let out a fake cough, looking at Naruto and Kiba.
"Do not want to play a game, we are simply going to go around the room, everyone say your name and one thing you like."
I could hear the other children in the vicinity sighing and grunting in disapproval, yet obeyed in order to "start off on the right foot. "
"Okay, we'll start with you in the back," Iruka declared, referring to my childhood friend from the long line of the Inuzuka's.
"I'm Kiba Inuzuka, and I love gettin' wild and startin' parties n' shit!"
"Watch your mouth!"
"Anyways guys this is my dog Akamaru, I have mental shit goin' on so I kinda need him to help me."
With that, the brunette took a seat, stroking the tiny white puppy which rested on his desk.
Another one of my childhood buddies, Shino, seated in front of the dog handler, stood up, stating his name and liking and returned to his seated position, as did other kids who weren't thrilled about this "social experiment."
When the teacher called my name, it was such a drag, yet I forced my legs to move and lift me from my seat. "The name's Shikamaru Nara, I enjoy playing Shogi." I rested on the uncomfortable plastic chair once more, without another word.
"I need a smoke," I thought to myself, almost immediately remembering I had used the last one this morning.
I leaned back and let out a sigh. "What a drag," I whispered.
The class had already continued with the personal game, and I began to space out.
"I wonder when my dad will return from his business trip," I questioned.
"What if the plane crashes?"
"Maybe tonight I can chill with Asuma and Kurenai."
