Rainbow
Chapter I
I’ll always be partial about the rain…
But there’s something about the feeling I often have when it’s all over. I don’t know if it’s the cold spell after that or just the feeling that the sun will shine soon enough. No…none of them mattered.
The only thing that mattered was the rainbow after the rain…
She always loved it when it rained. I never really knew why. But she did.
I find it hard to believe that it had been over a little three years ago. Time passed by all too quickly. Back then, I wanted to take back everything…to just—hold her in my arms while I ran my hand through her soft dark locks, to smell her sweet scent, to gaze into her soft brown eyes which seem to push me back and pull me in at the same time.
Rainbow…
I softly touched my lips. I felt her lips…her soft pink lips touching mine. I remembered the first time we kissed. I felt my stomach going in knots…she just had the power to do that to me. To make me go weak in the knees.
She’s the only woman who ever made me feel happy. I know it sounds sappy when you hear it, but she really made me feel that way.
The wind that softly gushed in front of me as I walked down the street where we used to walk together, I could feel it all coming back. The things that happened, the events that led us to throw everything away…as I looked up, I saw the rainbow after the rain. And when I turned around I’m wearing my lacrosse team uniform, she was running toward me as she reached me she gave me a tight hug and a soft kiss.
“Ezra, you were so great out there. I’m proud of you…” She whispered to my ear.
Once again, the air of my senior year in high school came back. I’m eighteen once again. I smiled slightly, wrapping my arms around my girlfriend, Aria Montgomery’s waist, as I whispered thank you to her ear.
Three years ago
It was almost Christmas, and school just let out for the vacation. I was sitting with Aria and we were talking about what we planned to do after high school. You see, I always dreamt of becoming an English teacher, like my father. There was something about teaching that made me want to do it for the rest of my life. Aria always giggled at the thought of me being a teacher.
“Okay, then, If you want to be a teacher after college then I’ll have some tough competition, Fitz.”
She always called me “Fitz” whenever she felt jealous and I couldn’t help but smile at her. “Oh, admit it, you’re just jealous of my soon to be students.”
She playfully ribbed me. I made a sound of agony, and of course she played along. “Oh yes, I am! I’m a jealous girl…” she pouted.
I smiled at her, not adding anything else.
She smiled slightly and cuddled next to me as we sat, watching the fire burn in the fireplace. I kissed her lips and brushed a lock of her dark hair away from her angelic face. God she was beautiful. If I were to lose my virginity right now, this would be the perfect time, but I wanted to make sure that everything was for sure already; I didn’t want anything to feel weird around us, so I held back.
“Aria…” I whispered to her
She looked up, I can see the fire burning in her soft brown eyes. “Yeah?” she whispered as well. If felt like music to my ears.
I gulped slightly as my breathing went fast.
“I love you.”
I waited for her answer…for her to reciprocate because she was the one for me, I know it.
She didn’t say anything, but she leaned in to kiss me softly. Then she pulled away slightly, cuddling even more. “I know…” she replied.
To be honest, I don’t know what to make of her reply. Did she even love me. Come to think of it, when she kissed me after I’d said it was a good enough answer—but still…
We planned on spending Christmas together. I told her that we should go to the beach and just look at the waves but she said that she wanted to do something different this year. By different, she asked me to spend time with her family. It was fun to get to know her family, getting to know Ella, Byron and Mike—Mike is her brother to seem to be so engrossed in teasing her but most of the time, Aria ignored him. The dinner was fairly good, nothing stuffy or anything.
We decided to take a walk down the park. She held my hands but I stopped her. “I love you.” I said once again.
She turned around and smiled at me. “I love you too.” She stepped forward and kissed me softly. It felt good to hear that from her. I slowly deepened the kiss and wrapped my arms around her waist. She wrapped her arms around my neck. That was the best gift I ever had in my entire life…
