In honor of July 4th
We make the people overseas want nothing more than our nation
We say we have freedom
We say we have rights
We show off our pride like everything is fine
We make the world see only our goods
This is what we call America.Foreigners,
Why do they see our nation as perfect,
This corruption in our political parties, is this what they seek to live with
Or the racism and hate which spreads everyday, would they like to rot their children's ears away,
Maybe it's the money which makes them pack for sail, but really there is no such thing as "equal pay" here,
Begging and crying for a visa,
People keep your pride,
Everything these poor people want to move for is only 'cause of the veil covering their eyes.Men yell through halls and cities that we are free,
Sure, hear these chants of how we let slaves be,
How we let women vote, and,
How we are allowed to speak our thougts,
How we are all able to have our own religion,
Yes, it's true, all this is freedom,
But there was a time,
A time where the women stayed home, the gay stayed deprived, and Africans were slaves,
At those times, there were still men outside who spoke of our liberty,
There have always been men who yelled the word "freedom" like it was nothing,
Because for many of these men, they never felt the pain of being a no one. This pain of being less than those around us, it's not broadcasted on the news,
The people who plead and spend their lives trying to be apart of our country, no one hears of them either,
Inside America we hear of what is wrong with the outside world,
Citizens adjust to the rumours spread,
They become terrified of others,
They begin to feel that they are lucky for being in America,
Then one day, something inside them takes over,
These loyal citizens become them,
They become the ones who spread the propaganda,
It doesn't matter anymore whether our country is free,
Since now, even the outsiders see the lie we have begun to believe.

PoetryThis poem was hard to put out into public since it's different from the pride most people will carry. I do love being able to live in America, but the thought of people thinking it's perfect is wrong so I wrote this.
