Chapter 1

The beginning of the end of my life in the "normal" world started as any other day. I woke up to my horridly loud alarm, hit it once to turn it off and again for good measure. I got out of bed and was showered and dressed in 45 minutes. I crept downstairs trying not to wake up my foster mom. I was not in the mood to cause another eruption because I would be waking her up after only three hours of sleep because she felt the need to stay out all night.....again.After wolfing down a yogurt and granola bar, and brushing my teeth I headed out the door.

School was uneventful. Same boring lectures, same amount of time alternated between looking at the clock and reading, same lunch eaten in the library. I admit it, I'm a bit of a loner. It's just me, I've been turned on, hurt, and abandoned by enough people in my life. At this point I figure why bother trying to make friends. The day went on in it's slow motion snail crawl until the bell finally released us to the outside world.

I walked from the school to the burger joint where I worked. I flipped some burgers, made some fries, and finally got allowed near the register after the manager went home. I don't know why she doesn't trust me around it. The only record I have of stealing wasn't actually stealing, it was recovering property that was already stolen. Lily, the assistant manager, on the other hand completely trusts me. Whenever it's just the two of us working she gives me complete reign over the order line.

After work I decided I didn't want to go home and be alone. So I headed to Emma's. Ever since the day we met she's kind of taken me under her wing. After a while I learned why. She's alone too. She's been through the system too. I like to think that I remind her of herself, but at the same time that thought scares me. I love her to death, but she's still alone, still isolated. I don't want to be like that the rest of my life.

After setting a new personal best for climbing the stairs to her apartment I knocked on her door, and got no answer. strange, unless she has a big bust happening she's usually home at this point on a Wednesday. After trying again I headed back down the stairs. As I crossed the lobby to the door the building manager saw me. "Hi Emily. Looking for Emma?"

I nodded.

"You're out of luck kid. She left last night and called today asking me to make sure her door was locked because she was going to be out of town for a while."

What? "Okay. Thanks." I said and then walked out the door.

I didn't think about it the whole walk home. I didn't think about it when I walked through the door and saw that my foster mom was out again. I didn't think about it when I read the note she left saying she'll be back by midnight. When I finally got to my room and closed the door I let it sink in and the tears fall. Emma just picked up and left with no warning, and it hurt, it hurt bad. Which is ridiculous. I mean she's an adult, she can make her own choices. She doesn't need to run it past the teenager so met by chance and befriended. I knew all of this but it still hurt. It hurt because she was the only person that I opened up to that stayed as long as she did. And now even she had walked out of my life.

Suddenly I didn't want to sit in the house anymore. I grabbed my jacket and headed out again. I had no idea where I was going, and I had no where in particular I wanted to go. I just had to move. After a few minutes I realized where I was heading, the park. Figures. It's where I went when I need to blow of some steam.

I walked around and around the path for over an hour just thinking. And then I came back to Earth and realized how dark it was. One hand on the knife in my pocket I started the trek back. About halfway back to the house I sensed that I was being followed. I turned and saw no one. Calling myself paranoid I kept moving. Then I felt someone grab my arm. I turned fast striking at whoever it was with my knife. Which went right through the figure. What the what?

While I was trying to figure out how such a thing could be physically possible, the figure lunged at me. This time I didn't have time to react. I could only think Oh crap before I blacked out.

My blackout didn't last that long. When I came to I almost had a heart attack. I was flying through the air being carried by a shadow with burning eyes. Before I could scream or have a sequel to my blackout I was unceremoniously dropped onto a beach.

I stood up and brushed the sand off my jeans. I looked around, but the shadow or whatever it was had disappeared. Looking around I was confronted with water on one side and a dark forest/jungle on the other. "Where am I?"

"Neverland." The answer came from behind me.

I turned to see a boy around my age. A pretty good looking boy. Chestnut hair, blue green eyes, and when he answered my question I heard a British accent. To sum it up, he was pretty hot. Then his answer finally finished processing. "Neverland?"

"That's right love." Yep. He's obviously a little crazy, but he's hot.

"That can't be possible."

"And why not?" He asked stepping closer.

"Because Neverland is a fairy tale, a story, it's not real."

He smirked. "I assure it's very real. And you're in it."

I felt a circular conversation coming on if I kept trying to argue. So I switched topics. "So what's your name?"

"Peter Pan."
