Not so great endings

The past unfolds

Four years ago

I ran like a mad woman on the streets hoping no one sees me which was kind of inevitable because I'm on the street , when I realized this I ran to the nearest kiosk and I snuck behind it and brought my phone and dialed his number
'Hello, Joe , it's Maia...I told you I would call when I missed you right?...
He answered with a very confused tone . 'Uhm...yea but this is not a foreign number and you are supposed to be calling with a foreign number. Wait! Are you in town?'

'Yes I am, I just came in and I need your help, i need you to come pick me up from Charles avenue , and I need you to do it discreetly no one has to know I'm around. Can you do that?
'Yes I can I will be there in 5 minutes, just stay exactly where you are and text me the description' He answered so quickly and I could here the worry in his voice.
There he goes again, running to my rescue needing no explanation whatsoever from me. After a year without seeing me he still acts as though we never parted, clinging on to my every word like those were the only words he could ever hear.
As I was lost in my thoughts, I heard a car parked in front of the kiosk and I thought....ITS HIM, God I hope it's him or else am screwed....I heard footsteps behind moving so close to me and then I felt a gentle touch on my shoulder which made me turn around.
  There he was, handsome as ever with a calming glow I knew too well
'Oh my God Maia it's you , I can't believe my eyes right now' without any hesitation he hugged me so tight with no intention of letting go and how I have longed for this moment
' we have to go right now,I can't be here for long, you have to take me to your place....' I paused and looked at him 'you live alone right?'
'Yes, no, yes In the moment but my .......' He looked at me and I could see the guilt in his eyes, then he said slowly
'with my girlfriend ......she went home but she will be back in a week,  other than that my place is very safe, I have been very discrete about it'
At that moment I didn't care if he stayed with his girlfriend or her entire family, I just needed a safe place to stay as I was on the run and I was getting very close to being discovered. So with no hesitation, I took his hands and we entered the car and drove off.
Throughout the car ride was a very uncomfortable silence and lingering stares from the both us, none of us wanted to ask questions because we were either afraid or ashamed of the answers. We finally arrived at his apartment, we went in and I was amazed at the place. It looked so cozy, and really classy for a college student living with his girlfriend....his girlfriend,I remembered
'Maia, I know this might be really uncomfortable for you but, I just want you to know that you are safe here' he said looking at me with the caring eyes I remember
'Wow, look at you worrying about my safety when you don't even know what I'm running from' I said
'I guess old habits are easy to fall back into, when you said you needed my help all I heard was...run to my rescue my knight in shining armor ' he said trying to mimic me in a childish voice I remembered so well
'Stop that, you know I hate it when you do that, I do not sound like that in any way' I argue and we both laughed and stopped when we realized I had to address the elephant in the room
'So Maia, tell me who is after you?' He asked
'I know this is going to be hard to believe but you just have to.......it's Chris '
'Chris, who is Chris , wait! your FATHER?'
