"I don't understand why we always get stuck going to the gross places." A tall young man wearing sunglasses stated as he walked next to another man who looked around the same age as him.
"It's because it's what we're assigned to, Parker." The other man stated as he turned his head to look at the one named Parker.
"Well I'm sorry Clyde, it just seems we're always in some dump on our missions." Parker retorted as he and Clyde continued their way through the dark and damp alley.
"That's only because most of our enemies are hiding in places most people wouldn't want to go, which makes it harder for us to find them and makes the trips unpleasant on occasions." Clyde said as he fixed his glasses as they slipped down his nose ever so slightly. Parker scratched the back of his neck as he listened to Clyde talk about their enemies and where their hideouts were usually located.
"Yeah well they decided to mess with the time streams so they better be hiding from us." Parker said, trying to sound tough but ultimately failing. That was the thing about Parker, he always tried to sound tough when he really wasn't, he was fairly well built but also skinny.
"You gotta understand something Parker, when they hide it makes our job harder and their's easier since they don't have to worry about being found quickly. They think they have all the time in the world to mess with time." Clyde said, giving Parker a little reality check. Clyde was always doing that since he was the one keeping Parker's head out of the clouds, he was the around the same age as Parker, about 28, but seemed wiser beyond his years and looked a bit older as well. Only the glasses and the stubble did that. The two men continued walking until they both reached a door in the side of a building on the left side of the alleyway, both men stopped in front of it and looked towards each other before nodding and pulling out their guns from the holsters that had been hidden under their jackets.
Clyde was the one to kick down the door since he had the strength to do so. Once the door was kicked down, hell broke loose. The enemies inside the building they had burst into instantly had their guns ready and were firing at Parker and Clyde. The two men dove for cover behind some crates near them and began firing back from behind them.
The enemy was a group in dark clothes with hoods over their heads and you couldn't see anything on their face except for their glowing eyes breaking through the darkness under their hoods. They spoke in voices that sounded like multiple people saying the same thing at once and they moved quickly.
Clyde ducked as a bullet zipped past his face and almost nicked his ear, he looked towards Parker to see how he was holding up and saw him ducking as well. The bullets were not stopping and the two knew what they were waiting for.
Soon enough, the two heard the group needing to reload and took the moment to jump up and start firing at the group, successfully shooting multiple of them and only leaving one. Clyde shot them in the leg so they couldn't run and they fell to the ground, clutching their leg in pain.
Parker and Clyde walked over to the figure on the ground and Clyde grabbed onto their shirt and lifted them up.
"Alright you shadow creep, who do you work for?" Clyde asked, his voice now stern and dead serious. Parker stood next to him with his gun pointed at the figure in case they tried anything.
"We work for many, dictators, company owners, anyone who needs us to change something in their time steam that will give them more power or wealth." The figure stated, speaking in many voices, and almost sounding.... like they were grinning? Clyde glared at the figure and shook them slightly.
"What do you guys call yourselves?" Clyde asked, getting close to the figures face and still not seeing any distinct features.
"We call ourselves many things, helpers, workers, demons." The figure stated and for a second, it's glowing eyes turned red when it said 'demons.' It still sounded like it was grinning and Clyde had had enough by this point and ripped off the figures hood. Clyde and Parker were taken aback by what they say, all they saw was a smokey cloud formed into the shape of a human head with no distinct features and only it's glowing eyes. Before Clyde or Parker could try and ask anymore questions, the figure disappeared into thin air and it's clothes fell to the ground except for the jacket Clyde was still gripping.
Once that figure disappeared so did the rest of them and all of the clothes fell flat to the ground, no longer having a body in them. Parker and Clyde shared a look before heading out of the building since there was nothing left there for them to search through or anyone to interrogate.
"We need- we need to report this to the chief, we're the first ones to actually see what they look like and we just learned what they are!" Parker exclaimed as the two of them stood outside the building.
"We'll tell him when we get back, but we'll call them Time Demons instead of demons since that's what they are." Clyde stated as he looked at Parker.
"How do you know that?" Parker asked, wanting to know how Clyde suddenly knew what those things were.
"Because when they disappeared, my watch went nuts and picked up residual time travel energy, they're able to go through time like us." Clyde said while tapping his watch on his wrist, it was much fancier than other watches and more tech based.
"Well shit, now we have to track them through time as well." Parker complained, earning a small glare from Clyde at his language.
"We've already been doing that, now let's head back to headquarters." Clyde said while putting something into his watch that would allow him to go back to headquarters, Parker doing the same.
Suddenly a flash came from the two watches at the same time and as it slowly disappeared, the two men were now gone from where they had been standing and somewhere far away from the building and what had been there.
