~Jack POV~

I smirked. "I'd like to see you try."

Dark grinned, sliding a new knife out of his pocket. "Suit yourself."

Growling, I flicked out the pocket knife, readying myself for his first attack. He chuckled, and lunged towards me. I jumped forward to meet him, but I was caught off guard when he suddenly slid to my right, slicing my shoulder open. I gasped in pain, nearly dropping my knife in the process.

Dark then swept my leg out from underneath me and I toppled over, hitting the ground harshly. Grinning, Dark grabbed the front of my shirt and hauled me off the ground, then slamming me into a nearby tree. My head cracked painfully against the trunk and I became extremely dazed. Laughing, Dark pinned me to the tree with my knife, leaving me with my feet barely touching the ground. I grabbed at the knife and tried to pull it out, which deemed difficult seeing that I didn't have good leverage.

Dark gave me a smug look before grabbing Mark's body off the ground and swinging him over his shoulder, Mark yelping in pain. Growling, I pulled at the knife even more, feeling it jiggle in the wood. I almost had it out when an elbow connected with my face, my nose cracking as my head once again smacked against the tree. I slumped, the energy suddenly sapped from my body. Dark grinned at me, exposing his sharp teeth. Glaring, I tried to push myself up, but Dark sent a punch at my stomach and another one to my jaw.

I coughed, watching as drops of red splatted against the grass and fallen leaves, the complementary color standing out amongst the green scenery.

Dark turned and began to walk off with Mark, but he stopped and turned back to me. He carelessly dropped Mark and took off his glasses. I so badly wanted to scream at him, but when I tried to make a sound I was sent into a coughing fit. Dark grinned and slid the glasses onto my face. "As a keepsake, a little reminder of your soon to be dead boyfriend."

I growled, trying to kick at Dark. He simply laughed and picked up Mark again, walking away without a second glance. In a worthless attempt, I reached out towards Mark, desperately wanting to take his hand in mine. Mark lifted his head slightly, and I somehow made eye contact with him, despite my blurry vision. "Mark," I coughed, "I'll save you. I promise."

Whether he heard me or not, I didn't care. I was going to get off the stupid tree and save Mark. And if that meant killing Dark, then there was just going to have be some necessary bloodshed.

I spent what seemed like hours pulling at the knife. How long it actually took, I don't know, all of it just seemed to be wasted time. Slowly moving the knife up and down, I hung my head, my breathing heavy and almost all of my hope gone. Suddenly it popped out of the trunk and I fell to the ground, my legs giving out beneath me. Grunting, I tried to push myself to my feet, but they felt like noodles, proving to be out of commision for the moment. I felt like giving up then and there, but I then saw Mark's glasses, and remembered the look he gave me as Dark carried him away. He looked so scared and vulnerable, like he was scared of getting hurt again, or even worse, dying. It sent a surge of rage through me. I snatched Mark's glasses off of the ground and pocketed my knife before grabbing the tree I had just released myself from and hauled myself to my feet, I was determined to get Mark back.

I was going to make sure he that when I saved him, he would never be taken again.

He would never have to worry about watching his back again.

He would never be put in any harm again.

He would never be scared again.

He would never be pushed away by the man he was trying to befriend again.

Because I loved him. I loved Mark. And whatever it was going to take to get him back, I wasn't going to hesitate to do it.

I staggered my way towards the wall, stumbling often over tree roots and rocks. My nose had finally stopped bleeding, but I was sure that there was blood caked to my face. I held my shoulder, blood from the open wound staining my shirt and sticking to my hand, bathing it in red.

Even when night fell I didn't stop, and I didn't think Dark would either, so I kept moving. I only stopped when I tripped over a large stone and fell, feeling extremely weak when I hit the ground. I rolled onto my back and looked up at the stars, amazed at how many there were on the cloudless night. "Why have I never noticed that?" I asked aloud.

After staring a moment longer, I grabbed Mark's broken glasses before pushing myself to my feet, once again moving. "When I get you back Mark, we're gonna stay up late looking at the stars. Maybe we'll stay up all night, and watch the sunrise too. Yeah. Yeah that'd be great. I'd love to do that. Just you, me, and the sky, changing as the night goes on."

I laughed at myself, thinking over the stupid phrase I had just said aloud. "I must be losing it," I laughed.

Or maybe I was just in love. And I wasn't going to let the love of my life be taken into that horrible city ever again.

Authors Note

So.... Dark won. And Mark is gone again. But Jack confessed his love for Mark!!! I mean, it was to no one but himself but hey, progress! (You've gotta start somewhere -A) And now he's on the adventure to get Mark back. Haha Mark can't keep his glasses for the life of him. Well, as said earlier, they don't really work that well, but that's not the point.
