~Jack POV~
Dark had run off. I drop my knife, suddenly disgusted by the blood that had covered the blade and splattered onto my hand. "Mark, Mark, gotta find Mark," I mumbled, the words coming out in a shaky spew.
Stumbling inside the nearest building, I searched around the room, finding Mark in the corner. I ran over to him, grabbing his limp body and pulling him into my lap. He was completely bruised and battered, but what scared me the most was the gash on the side of his head. I tore off my sleeve and held the cloth to his forehead, which quickly began to sop up the blood. His chest rose and fell, much to my relief. "That's good Mark, keep breathing," I mumbled, fully knowing that he couldn't hear me.
Without another word I picked him up, gently throwing him over my shoulder. Then, I walked to the gates, ignoring all the questioning stares. I was immediately stopped by the guard. "Hey!" he snapped, "I saw you earlier! What're you doing back here? And with the same guy?"
I shoved past him. He growled and roughly grabbed my arm, causing me to almost drop Mark. "I asked you a question!"
"None of your business!" I yelled.
He still didn't let go of my arm. "If the boss sent you, then why are you back here with him? Dark brought him back in earlier."
"Because the boss sent Dark to kill me, I'm just finishing my job."
The guard scoffed. "If you now so much about the boss, then tell me. What's their name?"
"Liam," I snapped, not giving a second thought to my words. "And he's dead."
The guard's eyes widened. "What? How?"
I grinned at him menacingly. "I killed him. That's what he gets for standing in my way. No do you want the same thing to happen to you?"
He released my arm and backed away, shaking his head as he stared at the ground. "No, sir."
"Sir?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Y-you killed Liam. That means you're in charge."
I chuckled "Oh really?"
"Yes, sir."
Scowling, I pushed the guard's head up so I could look him in the eye. "My name isn't sir."
The guard nodded. "Then what do I call you?"
I stepped back, adjusting Mark on my shoulder. "Call me Clover."
He nodded once again, only speaking when I began to move forward. "Sir, I mean, Clover! You can't go back to the Goods, they'll kill you!"
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Kayden," he mumbled in response.
"Well Kayden," I grinned. "I'm not a Bad, and I'm not a Good. That means that I can go where I want, when I want."
Kayden gave me a questioning look. "I don't understand."
I laughed, once again walking away. "A story for another time. If you need me, you know how to get in. Just make sure you stay in the forest."
Without another word or even a glance back, I made my way back to Good's territory, only stopping when I reached the familiar river I loved to sit by.
I gently set Mark down, carefully laying him down in the flowers. Soon after he groaned, his eyes finally flickering open. "Mark," I said gently as I held his hand.
He looked up at me with narrowed eyes. He opened his mouth to say something, but all that came out was a harsh gust of air. I crawled to the river and cupped my hands, filling my hands with water. I then waddled back to Mark pouring the water in his mouth. After he drank the water, he sighed, closing his eyes and leaning his head back. I looked up at the sky, only seeing a few white dots peeking through the trees. Smiling, I slid Mark's glasses back onto his face. "Hey Mark, I wanna show you something."
He opened his eyes, and with my help, sat up. I then picked him up bridal style, carrying him to the nearest clearing. Smiling, I laid him down in the grass, laying next to him. "Have you ever noticed how beautiful the stars are?" I asked.
Mark shook his head, taking my hand. We laid in silence for a few more minutes until I finally sat up, looking down at Mark. "Mark, I'm sorry it took me so long to realize this, and even longer to admit it, but... Mark. I love you."
He grinned up at me, his eyes sparkling with joy. "I love you too," he whispered, his voice extremely hoarse.
Smiling, I leaned down and gently placed my lips against his, marvelling at how soft they were. Mark wrapped his arms around me, pulling me down onto his chest. Smiling, I closed my eyes, enjoying the feeling of Mark's warm arms around me.
