The people here talk about the Angel of Truth and a Demon of Death as if they were really real. Like they were some unspeakable force of nature in its most mysterious glory; which I found profoundly intriguing. The village had many sights and stories but the most common legend was the Holy sword priestess Saylon and the crying demon Hykina.
I sat in an old restaurant its interior looking as if it hadn't been changed since it was built fourth years ago. The wooden walls were polished and matched the long tables; each table long enough to fit at least twelve people. The lights were low barring lanterns with deep dark metal frames which no longer held candles but electric bulbs. The waitress was an old woman who looked to be in her mid sixties wearing a red brown floral blouse adorned with a silver name tag and a pair of black dress pants with a ruby coloured apron. Her dark silvery hair hung down in loose waves. Sue Lee smiled warmly at me as she wrote down my order before bringing some coffee over for me. I clutched the
temple considering I had just gotten into town an didnt know anything. Her warm brown eyes held a glow that I couldn't understand but found myself excited for what she had to say. She began telling me the story as if she had lived it.
"There a long time ago was a beautiful priestess named Saylon. She was the most powerful priestess in all the land and was praised for it. But she was secretly very lonely and unhappy, she didn't think that people needed to kill nor fear all demons because one night on a full moon she awoke from her slumber to the sound of crying and so she sought to find the one in such sorrow. So she followed the smell of tears on the wind to the very top of the Lonely Mountain which over looked the vast forests surrounding the village. The eyes of the mysterious man were cold and dull compared to her own which were filled with love and life. The dark surrounded him, the only friend the beautiful man has ever known. In the darkness a she hears his voice calling to the moon across the miles, begging her to free him of his evilness and loneliness only to be struck with the sight of a solitary woman, an angel all alone.Out of the light she came to aid his breaking lonely heart. To each others beauty they each has succumbed with the moon shining her blessing high above. She silently approaches her newfound love only to be met with a fearful sight. A monster with the angelic face and body deformed by the evil in his blood. Horrifying horns sprouting from his head, eyes so luring and poisoning , clawed hands long and sharp enough to slice delicate skin from bone like slicing through luscious peach blossoms. She ran of course to get away from such a terrifying creature."
"Did he kill her or something? "
The old woman smiled and waved off my questions as she continued.
"The terrifying beast ran after her, not to kill and eat her like the young Saylon had thought but for her help. Saylon had locked herself inside her house every night, the beast was only able to come out in the darkness so he would travel down the mountain each night and sat outside her window begging for her to help him but Saylon refused each and every time the demon came. Soon a year had past and the demon began to come less and less until he stopped coming at all. Her head told her to stay away from him but the beckoning of his sorrowful soul became to much to deny so one night Saylon crept out of her house and towards the mountain in hopes of helping the lonely demon. The trees and their branches seemed to claw at her as she climbed the Lonely Mountain, once she was close she hid behind some rocks and peered over to the creature sitting by the mountains stream. Making sure it wasn't a trap Saylon held her sword close. At first she stood and watched him as he explained his troubles; soon as time carried on they became closer and closer each night until Saylon did not see him as a horrific demon but a lover, a friend. The village had no knowledge of the demon on the mountain until one night, a full moon as bright as the sun appeared high in the night sky. Saylon had made her way up the mountain with a feeling of unease, she was going to confess to him of her feelings but all was shattered as she stood at the top of the mountain watching the demon embrass another. Their bodies pushed together in warm passion. Saylon gasped as tears filled her eyes. Saylon ran. The branches seemed to struck out at her scrapping her and grabbing at her. She no longer new her way back down the lonely mountain. As the clouds cast a shadow over the land Saylone lost her footing and began to fall and roll down the mountain until she stopped short of a cliff. Saylone cried out to the moon and the gods cursing them for their cruel ways.
"What happened next?? Did the gods strick her down?"
The woman frowned as she began to finish the story.
The air carried a stillness, as she flung herself off the cliff. The sound of the demons crys a reminder of the wounds he had caused in her. The demon had only tried to trick her but in the end he had fallen for her as well. was never hard to miss, the imprint of love and faithfulness written all over his smile when his eyes met hers. As the winter subsided, she could hear his heartbeat , calling out beyond the love they had. In the approaching sun she knew that his time would be coming soon, that the bonds of trust would transcend into heavens shadows and she would be alone. As he kissed and said good bye to her, she felt her heart beating slower, knowing it won't be long now before my life will end. I look up at the moon. It seems so peaceful now.
You have done your task you killed your lover on a full luna moon you will change into a beast that will roam the land searching for happiness and destroying it."
