I lay motionless on the picnic mat, admiring the bulbous, fluffy clouds while enjoying the soothing autumn breeze and his company. Besides the rustling of the leaves, I felt so consumed by this tranquil silence in which I could hear the steady and rhythmic thumping of our heartbeats, "thum thum, thum thum.." It is indeed the most calming melody I've ever heard.
"See that heart shaped cloud over there? I believe God is trying to help me send you a message," he interrupted the silence.
"And what would that be?" I teased. I already knew the answer however I just wanted to hear him express again.
He turns to face me and lifts my chin to meet his gaze. I stare into his emerald green eyes which seemed to be beaming at me and couldn't help but to smile along.
"Baby, I love you," he whispers in his low, sexy voice which gave me to urge squeal and cartwheel around.
"Sorry? You're too soft, I couldn't hear you," I challenged him with a wry smile.
He planted a soft kiss on my lips and jumped up and screamed, "Katherine Lucille Garcia! I LOVE YOUUUUU!!"
Without any warning, the sky suddenly became a few shades darker and the wind was so intense it caused the trees to crash against each other violently. The leaves, the picnic basket, the mat, everything were blown away by the sudden insane wind.
What's happening?
When I turned to face him, all I could see was his silhouette, walking away slowly. With each step he took, I felt myself sink a little as my heart started to ache more and more. I wanted to scream at him to ask him to turn back but weirdly, I felt as though something was refraining my voice from leaving my throat. A blank, emotionless expression swept over my face when I finally realized what was happening. I closed my eyes hoping that things would magically go back to normal when I opened them again however, deep down, I knew, everything has changed. Tears streamed down uncontrollably as I fell to the ground on my knees.
This can't be happening again. No. No. No.
"Sweetie, wake up, you're scaring me," my mother was grabbing and shaking my shoulders and I immediately shot straight up from bed and took a deep breath. After a minute, I manage to calm down before realizing I was sweating profusely and both my cheeks were tears stained.
"Mum, was I screaming in my sleep again? Did I wake you?" I asked apologetically and she nodded and embraced me in a hug.
It was the exact same dream again, the same dream that has been haunting me for four months now. Even though I woke up from that nightmare, deep down, I felt a sense of isolation, despair and emptiness. And I knew that this was just the beginning.
"What's wrong with me?" I whispered hoarsely. My mouth felt as dry as paper.
Who was that guy in my dream? And why can't I ever recall his face when I wake up?
