*Enjolras's POV*

Marius and I are standing in front of everybody telling them one of our "evil schemes". We are asking everyone to meet here at General Lamarque's place to bring out this plan, and for everyone to bring their friends. It looks like we've succeeded, and the majority of people here will come.

As we step down, Marius's grandfather comes up to us.

"Marius," he says.

"Grandpa" Marius responds, in surprise.

"Have you any idea of the shame you bring on our family?" says Marius's grandpa.

Marius stares back at him in disbelief. As his grandfather walks away, Marius is still glaring at him in shock.

As I took my eyes off the angry man, my eyes fall on a certain familiar girl. Dark hair, dark eyes. She heard everything.

As Marius is shouting comments that explain his hatred for Lamarque at his grandfather, I see the girl gaping at him.

Marius glares at her, then smiles a bit. "Ugh. Damn annoying relatives," he says.

She raises her eyebrows and clenches her fists. "You have no idea," she says, then walks away.

"Little thing we have in common there," Marius said back to her, grinning now. She smiled at him then left

Ok, woah. She talks to Marius, and doesn't even acknowledge that the guy she technically already knew is there. Doesn't seem right, and we need to chat a little.

I grabbed her arm. "Woah, have we met?" I asked.

"I don't know you tell me, ya spy," she replied.

"So you knew it was me."

"Of course"

I lifted my hand to the side of her face. "Is your-" I started to say. I was asking if she was ok. I could see the bruise her father made when he slapped her. Before I could finish asking, she slapped my hand away.

"Don't touch me," she said through gritted teeth.

There was a pause. I pressed my lips together. "Alright. I'm sorry"

The corners of her mouth lifted a little. I couldn't help but notice how great her smile was. I suddenly had a quick longing to be the reason she would use that more.

"Thanks," she said. "And do me a favor, don't eavesdrop next time"

"You got it," I said, then winked at her.

She started to turn around again, but I grabbed her arm again. Then, remembering she told me not to touch her a few seconds ago, I quickly pressed my arm to my side. "I'm sorry," I said. "About...what happened."

"You know, it's fine," said the girl. "Not the first time it happened," she grumbled.

I nodded.

It looks like she found me as trustable, because she lifted her head and said "You know, my dad is horrible. He fools people and makes them do horrible things. He lies, he hurts people, I don't get how I lived with him all those years, being like that. And my mother too. But don't tell anyone. Not even the police. Trust me, he'll change the entire story around, to make it sound like he is the innocent one and I did something horrible. So you saw NOTHING."

I nod again, but rather quickly this time.

"So," I said, with what I was hoping was a rather sexy smile. "I didn't catch your name"

She stood there, thinking for a sec. "Call me 'Ponine. You?"

"Enjolras," I replied nervously. And she walked away, this time without me stopping her.

I turned around with a sigh, to find Marius staring at me with one eyebrow raised. I slapped his arm. "Come on. Let's go."

The whole time back I was thinking about her. Her smile, her braveness, her voice, her hair...

No. Enjolras, how could you fall in love so fast, with a girl like THAT? She looks like she hasn't even looked in the mirror in months...but she doesn't need to. She has that beauty. It's not like the rich people around here. It's different. You can see the layers of dirt and grime on her. I guess that's what makes her beautiful, she doesn't care. And...and what about her attitude. Tough, and all frowny and not as easy as the other girls. I like the ones that are weaker, who will fall more easily. Well maybe different is better. I just don't know about any of this. I am very intelligent, but apparently not enough to figure this out. It's like an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other, persuading you to agree with their side, except this choice isn't good or evil, it's whether I should admit something to myself or to forget about it.

Enj, will anything ever be easy?

Ooh, left you off there a bit. Don't worry, I'm not as mean as SOME PEOPLE. Anyway, chapter 4 will probably be in by...Saturday to Monday maybe? Idk I'll try to get it done ASAP though. Byeee!
