I wake up in a bed other than my own. It takes my eyes a few moments to adjust but I eventually figure out that I'm probably lying in the recovery room, someone is standing near the bed with their back to me, though I can't place who; my head is still a bit fuzzy. They turn around and smile when they see I'm awake.
"Hey Kat" I hear Andrew say. I moan and he comes to my side "are you in pain?" he asks but I shake my head.
"No I'm not in pain, I just can't believe I'm stuck here with you" I state, only half joking. He opens his mouth as if to say something but quickly closes it.
"Actually, since you're awake that means the healing process is done enough for you to be able leave...they wanted to keep you unconscious until you were healed because they knew that if they didn't, you'd just get yourself into more trouble." I sit up slowly and look at myself, I'm covered in bandages and am a bit sore but as far as I can tell I'm fine.
"How long has it been?"
"About a week, but I can catch you up on things if you want."
"No" I say simply and stand up; luckily I'm wearing clean normal clothes, though I don't really want to know how. I walk out of the room and down the hall to the holo-room the accident happened in.
The whole place is roped off and only a few people are inside still investigating the accident. They nod to me as I walk past them to the spot where I was bitten. The blood has been cleaned up but there are scratches etched deeply into the floor. I bend down and touch the area slightly with two fingers...the rest of the floor is cold but this one area seems hot. The whole scenario almost feels like it was just a bad dream, but the soreness of my body tells me otherwise.
What makes it even stranger is that none of the other people who were attacked said anything about ever seeing or feeling it, and this is my third time encountering it... Could it be that its main purpose is to go after me? No... that's ridiculous, who in their right mind would go through all this trouble just to hurt me? Shaking my head I stand up, but now that I think about it, there are tons of people here who don't like me but try not to show it, though it's obvious they still blame me for what happened that night... Sighing, I turn and walk out of the room, heading to the director's office. I have a feeling he will want to talk to me so I might as well go now; however, when I get there I hear him talking to someone. I press my ear against the door and listen.
"I want this problem sorted out right now; I cannot stand by and watch more people get hurt. It's obvious who put the glitch there, everyone knows it. Director, if you don't take care of this then it's only a matter of time before someone else takes it into their own hands."
"I understand, but there's nothing I can do without proof, just like the incident a few years ago there's not enough incriminating proof to expel her. I have a team looking into it but in the meantime, I don't want to hear another word."
"But...yes sir..." the person says then walks to the door. I quickly dash back down the hall, there's only one person they could have been talking about...
"Kat!" I stop dead and turn around as Andrew comes up to me.
"Hey, what's up? You left so quickly earlier we didn't really get a chance to talk; and we haven't really talked much in a while." He says smiling. A cold chill runs down my spine, he's smiling as he looks at me, but something feels...off.
"Oh well..." I say turning away, "I'm busy..." That wasn't a complete lie, ok, well maybe it was but that doesn't matter. Something doesn't feel right... though I'm probably just overthinking it.
I walk away and head to my room to process all that's happened, but when I get there, there's a note on my door. I read it quietly out loud to myself, "Kacey, we heard that you've woken up. We're down at the normal training room." I sigh, I just woke up and they already want me to go down and see them. I groan and head down the halls to the room. When I enter they're fighting the robotic practice dummies. Huh, I thought Jay was going to stick to his training schedule. I see Matt slash at a dummy with a large knife then stop and smiles as he sees me.
