How can this world be so cruel? Why is there constant taking of life? For what?! What is it all for? Merle was paralyzed from the grief. Because of her frozen state, her body began to sink and follow the blue whale to the darkest depths of the Deep. Som swooped from underneath her in order to give her neutral buoyancy. "Ssssstupid fish, if you don't sssswim you'll get lost in the darkness." Som began to nip at Merle in order to get her out of the catatonic state. From the fierceness of Som's bite, blood began to spill from Merle's skin. "Stop it Som. Ursala is not going to like it if she's badly hurt." Sam's eyes met with Merle's briefly before he looked away from shame. I can't live like this anymore. I have to get away. There was desperation in Merle's eyes. She knew if she stayed, it would only be a matter of time until she is driven mad from all of the killing. At this point, Ursala taking her life prior to their agreed time would be a blessing. I will help you escape Merle. Merle's eyes turned wild from the surprise as she met Sam's gaze again. How are we communicating like this? Merle asked with astonished thought. This was similar to when she communicated with the whale. This type of communication was rather unusual. Don't worry about that Merle. I have done a lot of terrible things during the time I have served under Ursala. Helping isn't much of an atonement, but I would feel better if you escaped. Your songs have touched my heart and have changed me. I will help you escape.
"Sssssam, your help is kindly appreciated. Help me drag this usssseless weight back to Ursala's cove." Som was completely unaware of the conversation happening between Merle and Sam. Merle, you have to listen to me. You only have one chance at this. You need to dig deep and use all of power you feel from within. Once you do this, sing a song with thoughts of putting us to sleep. Once we are unconscious, you need to swim to the surface! That's the only way you will escape Ursala's clutch. Just as long as you aren't touching the sea, she will never be able to find you.
Sam began to approach closer to Som in order to make the appearance to help with dragging Merle back to the cove. Merle had her eyes closed as if to draw out some arcane power stored inside of her. She finally took a deep breath and slowly started a melody. "What is sssshe doing?" exclaimed Som. Merle continued with her lullaby. Her song was sweet with sadness that urged the listener to rest and relinquish the heavy sadness they felt. A faint glow of light started to radiate out of Merle's skin. Still with her eyes closed, Merle elevated the volume of her song. "Sssstop...." Som did not get a chance to finish his thought because he suddenly found himself drifting into deep sleep.
Good luck Merle. You will find the answers about yourself on the surface. I'm not certain that we will meet again, but I want to express my regrets for all of the pain I have caused you. I am sorry. Merle opened her eyes to find Som and Sam wrapped in a bubble and steadily fast asleep.
With expedient intent, Merle started swimming up in order to escape.
