Three

I sigh looking at the ceiling it is three in the morning and yet again I've had a nightmare. I really didn't want to bother Jake again but I was terrified. The night terrors always went like this, almost every night regardless of what time I went to bed, I'd wake up early in the morning sweating, crying, and tangled in my sheets. I hated it.

After another hour I gave up and crawled out of the bed running my hands through my hair nervously before making the short distance to Jake's room. Opening the door I quietly made my way over to his form before crawling onto the opposite side of the bed, when I'm settled, his arms wrap around me like always -- I still tense, even now, after countless nights of this happening, slowly relaxing once he brought me against his bare chest.

"Zach," someone mumbles shaking me lightly "time to get up," I whimper hiding my face before remembering where I am, bolting upright my eyes wide I look up to see Jake fully clothed and probably ready to leave. I jumped out of his bed running off to my room squeaking out an apology as I left his room. If I didn't want to be late I'd needed to hurry, not that it mattered much.

Rushing down the stairs after dressing myself, I ran straight through the kitchen deciding I wasn't hungry enough to eat anything now, plus if I didn't leave soon I wouldn't have time to walk to school like I want to. I didn't want to bother Jake anymore than I was, he always did things for me and I didn't have to ask, just last night he brought home take out; Wendy's, which was my favourite.

"Zachary!" I froze hearing my name as I turn to see Jake leaning against the doorway from the kitchen. "Where do you think you're going without breakfast?" I look down at my feet shrugging before looking at the time. I could still make it if I left now... I felt Jake's presence in front of me when he grabs my arm dragging me back into the kitchen. "I'll drive you to school today. It's supposed to rain anyways," I nod knowing there's no point in arguing before standing back up to get myself some cereal, I wasn't really hungry.

Grabbing a bowl I tense feeling Jake behind me. "Are you feeling okay Zach? You seem pretty spaced out," I nod not being able to find my voice, looking at the time I almost drop the bowl blanching. I didn't have very much time before school started. "Alright, since it's so late let's get going," I sigh my body relaxing as he walks towards the door. Putting the bowl back I rush out to follow him.

The car ride was quiet and quick, I thank Jake before making my way towards the door, hating how everyone was staring at me. Probably because of the expensive looking car Jake had. That was another reason I'd rather walk. There was less staring then. Sighing in relief when I made it to class four minutes before the bell rang I took my seat in the back of the classroom. All my energy was gone now. Classes went by quickly and for the most part the teachers and students left me alone, which I was grateful for.

By the time I came back to reality it was lunchtime. Not that I cared, yea I was hungry but it was nothing I couldn't live with and it wouldn't be forever. Oliver was still waiting for the okay that I could use my bank account after switching it the other day. I avoid the cafeteria as I walk outside finding a shaded spot I lay down watching the clouds, there was almost no one outside considering it looked like it would downpour any second. Closing my eyes I relax, that is, until someone jumps on me.

"Why would you do that?!" I wheeze out, clutching my stomach. It didn't hurt very much but it had surprised me. Once I recover I look up to see a small girl with long blonde hair staring at me with her chocolate brown eyes.

I watched in shock as she shrugs "I dunno... You looked like you were gonna fall asleep," I sigh again watching her curiously. I didn't know what to do or say and she was just staring at me, it was creeping me out. "My names Ali, you're that new transfer student right...? Umm... Zachary?" I let out a breath nodding.
