"Magnus, are you okay?" Alec whispered gently, circling his thumb around Magnus' cheek to wake him up. The warlock woke up, his eyes wide and startled, his hands clenching the bed sheets. "It's okay, Magnus, I'm right here." He scooted closer and touched their foreheads together.

At the sound and soft touch of his boyfriend, Magnus relaxed and let out the breath he had sucked in. Alec is here, everything is okay. He had been telling himself that for the past week, hoping that saying it multiple times would make it true and the nightmares would go away. But no, the anxiety stayed and the nightmares always came.

"You've been acting so strange lately Magnus. The nightmares are getting worse too, I can tell. What's bothering you?" Alec's voice sounded so concerned; it made Magnus' heart break even more. He couldn't speak, just shook his head and snuggled closer to him. Alec didn't understand. Magnus did tell him what was going on. Every night Magnus told him; and every night Alec left him.

Alec didn't push him for answers. He just wrapped his arms around Magnus until he stopped shaking and fell back to sleep. Magnus slept without another nightmare, but his dreams were still unpleasant. He woke up feeling sick and wore out. It wouldn't be long until this burden drove him crazy. Rolling over, he started to panic when he felt Alec's side of the bed was empty. Magnus slid his hand around, feeling for the note that was always there; telling him where Alec went. It wasn't there.

Magnus jumped out of the bed and raced around the loft looking for his phone, forgetting in his panic that it was sitting right next to the bed. He finally found it and started dialing Alec's number with shaking hands. It rang and rang but went to voicemail. His panic started to rise.

Alec always left a note, but Magnus usually didn't worry too much about where he went off to in the morning. He usually just went back to the Institute to train or went out for an early breakfast with Isabelle. This time was different. With everything playing on his mind, Magnus kept coming up with terrible scenarios as to why Alec was gone.

Isabelle, thankfully, answered the phone. "Magnus what's goi-"She was cut off by the frantic warlock.

"Isabelle, where's Alexander? I-I woke up and he-he was g-g-gone." Magnus put his hand to his mouth to try to keep himself from crying. His emotions were all messed up thanks to the nightmares and he couldn't control them anymore.

"It's okay Magnus. Alec is here, training with Jace and Clary. Magnus what's going on?" Isabelle asked, worried about how Magnus was acting.

Isabelle sounded so full of concern, just like her brother, and Magnus couldn't stop himself from breaking down and telling her, through tears, what was happening. He told her about the main problem, the anxiety, the nightmares, everything.

"And I wake up, and he's still here and I just can't tell him. I don't want to lie to him. I just, I-I don't know what to do anymore Izzy." Magnus collapsed on the couch, exhausted from pacing the floor and lack of good sleep.

"Magnus, you need to tell Alec. He'll understand, he'll be glad you told him. He's so worried about you Magnus that he can't think right while training. This secret is eating you up inside, but it's starting to do the same to Alec. You have to tell him." He heard her name being called faintly. "I have to go. Tell him Magnus. Tonight." She hung up.

The rest of the day was torture for Magnus. He could barely concentrate on the clients that came in requesting some potion or help in some way. The lack of sleep and the anxiety gnawing at him was starting to make him irritable and he finally blew up and told everyone to leave.

Magnus didn't know he had fallen asleep until he heard his front door unlock. It was late in the evening and Alec had returned. That sweet moment of bliss right when you wake up instantly vanished and the panic began again. He heard Alec walk down the hall and open the bedroom door.

Magnus opened his eyes and stared at the figure leaning against the door frame, outlined by the faint light from the hall. He didn't need a light to know Alec. He knew Alec from head to toe, better than anyone else. His heart felt like in was going to burst from how much he loved the Shadowhunter.

"Alexander," Magnus' voice was hoarse and tired, like it had already given up saying his name. Magnus coughed and summoned his courage. He patted the bed and Alec walked over, his eyes wide with concern for his warlock.

"Alec, there's something I need to show you." Alec tilted his head to the side slightly as Magnus closed his eyes. When they opened again, they were different. These eyes were amber with a slit pupil, like the eyes of a cat Magnus seemed like he waited for more years than he had been alive for Alec to respond, for him to get upset and leave. But Alec stayed sitting on the bed, just looking into Magnus' eyes.

Alec stared for a long time at Magnus. It shocked him, yes, but the eyes were still Magnus'. They held the same passion and love that Alec had always seen in Magnus. He just felt sad that Magnus had tortured himself over telling him. The poor warlock was always so dramatic.

Magnus tensed when Alec began to move. When Alec brought his hand up to rest on his cheek, Magnus relaxed into the touch. He felt Alec brush his fingertip across his eye, outlining it gently.

"This is what you've been so worried about Magnus? That you have different eyes?" Alec asked. Magnus pushed his hand away, suddenly more animated.

"No, Alexander. It's not just the eyes. It's this whole side of me. The non-human side; the Downworlder side. I think it's easy for you to forget that I'm not normal, easy for you to forget what I've done in my life. But these eyes they-they show what I am. They show you I'm demon." Magnus was crying now. He waited for Alec to pull away, to yell at him, to want to kill him, just like he did in the nightmares. Instead, the Shadowhunter pulled Magnus into him, tears in his eyes at how Magnus looked. Magnus was so tired from the strain of his feelings that he crumpled and fell into Alec's lap, shaking and crying.

"Oh, Magnus. You are so oblivious sometimes." Alec lightly laughed at his boyfriend's tendencies to not notice things. "I see you, the real you, every day. When you make breakfast, when you get ready for a party, when you talk to everyone we meet on our walks. You shine with kindness. I could never forget what you are Magnus. You are my love, my life. There is nothing in this world that will ever change that." Alec slowly rocked with Magnus in his arms, occasionally kissing his head gently, until Magnus calmed down.

"I love you Alexander. And I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier." Magnus mumbled against Alec's chest, sounding like a sad puppy (AN: or would it be kitten?).

"And I love you. You know you can tell me anything, Magnus. I hated seeing you so torn up without being able to do anything about it." Alec shifted as Magnus pulled away from his lap. His eyes were back to human. "Can you show me again?" He asked quietly, not wanting to upset Magnus. The warlock just nodded and closed his eyes.

Magnus opened his eyes, taking in Alec's features with the cat's eyes. There was so much curiosity in Alec's face, and so much love. Love for me, Magnus thought. Then his thoughts were cut short as Alec leaned in and kissed him. It was soft and sweet at first, but when Magnus pulled away slightly, Alec followed him with a kiss more rough and urgent.

Magnus found himself back on Alec's lap with his hands tangled in his black hair and the Shadowhunter's lips pressed against his neck. Magnus sighed and Alec groaned, pushing him back onto the bed. Alec moved on top of Magnus, their bodies pressed close, and looked into those cat eyes staring up at him and could see his own feelings and desires reflected in them. Then he leaned down and kissed his beautiful warlock.

With a snap of his fingers, the door to their bedroom closed, encasing them in darkness. Magnus could see fine with the cat eyes, but he used to magic to light a few of the candles he collected in his room for Alec to see. That night, in the faint light of fire, Magnus' nightmares disappeared and his dreams came true.
