Lisa's POV-
I woke up and instantly noticed the dark sky outside my window, and remembered jetlag. I swung my legs over the edge of the bed and walked downstairs, and, after a few tries of looking in rooms, I found the kitchen. My parent's must have gone shopping for food after we went to sleep.
I decided that I would just act like I was at home timewise. I grabbed a banana and cut up some strawberries for my breakfast. I brought my plate, along with a waterbottle to the dining room right by the kitchen. I studied my view of my new house carefully. Examining every little thing from the pillows on the couch to the designs on the plates in the china cabinet. I really liked how well the house went together.
Just as I was getting to the bottom of my banana, I heard someone, who I assumed was Lena, come down the stairs. She popped her head in the dining room.
"Guten Morgen Lisa" she said sleepily.
"Lena we have to talk English at all times remember?" I said laughing.
"Oh, right" She answered.
"Mother and father bought food" I called out to her as she entered the kitchen.
I then brought my dish to the sink to rinse it of, and decided to go on a walk with my sister when she finishes eating. I checked my phone to see that it was 7:50 p.m. That's not too late to be outside I dont think.
After she was done we slipped on our hurache's and headed outside. The air was crisp and warm. We walked along the sidewalk that took us in a big circle around the neighborhood. It was very quiet and the only sound was cars passing by. The silence was calming.
"We should do this everyday, I really like just walking around the neighborhood."
"Yeah we should! Hey, maybe we'll meet a neighbor that's our age in this neighborhood!" Lena exlaimed excitedly.
"I doubt it but, you never know." I answered.
After about twenty minutes we arrived back at our house. As we entered the house we noticed our parents were up.
"Hey mom, hey dad." I greeted.
"Hello to you too but girls, make sure you let us know when you plan on leaving the house next time, okay?" My dad said.
We nodded our heads, not really caring about what he was saying. Typical teenagers. We both went back upstairs. Lena went into her room to facetime her friend Laura from back home. I decided to plan how to arrange my room. I grabbed a notebook and pencil from downstairs and sat on my bed staring at my bare room thoughtfully. I played around with different ideas until I finally settled on the perfect setup.
Our moving truck should be here any minute which I was really happy about. I decided to join in on Lena's factime with Laura. I went into her room and greeted our childhood friend. I hadn't realized how much I missed speaking german until the words poured out of my mouth. We held a conversation for a good thirty minutes, but it had to come to an end after our mother told us our moving truck was here.
We walked down the stair and stepped outside to help carry in the boxes that held all of our belongings, each of which held a special meaning of memory of our life back in Stuttgart.
Once Lena and I got all of our boxes up to our rooms, we unpacked our things. I placed my clothes on my bed and got hangers from one of the boxes. I began hanging all of my tops. I decided to put it in color coded order.
My parents carried in my furniture one by one and I helped them arrange it the way I had planned earlier. After they went to help my sister, I placed my bottoms in my dresser and began unpacking the rest of my stuff. I put my decorations all around my room and made my bed. I hung up some pictures on my wall to remind me of my home. And, with a little help from Lena, I hung up a large black and white tapestry that went well with my room.
I finally sat down and scanned my room, satisfyed with how it looks. I decided to see what Lena's room looked like, and it looked just like how it did back in Germany.
"Don't you want it to look different? I mean, it's a chance for a new start." I asked curiously.
"I want to just pretend everything is the same for a while, I don't want every single part of my life to change just yet." She answered quietly.
I decided she needed to be left alone so I nodded and left the room. I went downstairs for a small snack. I grabbed a granola bar and a bottle of water.
I watched as my parents moved item after item into our house. They seemed so happy to be moving here. I wish Lena felt the same way. She seemed excited at first, but it seems that reality is kind of hitting her hard right now. I hope she gets over it soon.
Moving to me is kind of like travelling to a whole different planet. I mean, who wouldn't want to go to a new planet? But, at the same time, what the heck is going on down on earth. There's a lot of mixed feelings involved.
I noticed that the clock said 8:30 p.m. so I decided to get ready for bed now. Luckily, my parents had already moved everything into our bathrooms so I grabbed a towel and took a hot, streamy shower. The best way to unwind from a long day. After my shower, I changed into a gray, oversized sweatshirt, and leggings. I placed my black fuzzy slippers beside my bed for when I wake up. In the mornings, my feet are always freezing and its like a game of hot lava trying to find some socks without letting my feet touch the ground. And no, I can't "just wear socks to bed", because that's wrong on so many levels. Just saying.
I brushed my teeth, combed through my hair, and washed my face with my neutrogena face wash. It smells like pomegranates, which makes it my favorite thing to do before bed. I then hopped in bed and played my ocean music to help me fall asleep. I've used it pretty much every night since I was about ten years old. And I'm hoping it will help me fall asleep now, even in a whole different country.
