Our interviewer Netty met up with Gabriela ( gabyemboaba ) to bring to you an exclusive interview with the author of My Princess and Hombre Libre.
Gabriela, tell us about yourself.
My name is Gabriela. I'm Mexican and I share a birthday with Mesut Ozil. My favorite sport is soccer but I also love baseball. I would like to study sports journalism and move to Spain in the future.
Who or what motivates you to write?
The people who read my stories. If they wouldn't vote or comment on them I wouldn't have motivation to write. They are the ones that make me feel like I can do more.
What got you started on football?
My dad. He is a big fan and also used to play. He would always talk about football to my sister, brother and me but no one would listen. It was until the 2010 world cup that i actually started understanding what soccer was about. And in the 2014 wc i saw James Rodriguez and well, I developed a small crush that got me into this wattpad world. And also soccer one.
When you aren't writing, what do you like to do?
I like to play soccer even if I'm bad at it. I clean anything but my room. And I also like to go on instagram and snapchat.
What football club (s) do you support and how did you become a fan?
I support Real Madrid because my dad told me about Hugo Sánchez and he was really good. Even though I go for Real, I admit that Barcelona is really good. Ronaldinho played there and he is one of my biggest idols. I also support León from Liga MX, mostly because I was born there and it was the first team I heard of.
What's your favourite book (s) ? On and off Wattpad.
My favorite on wattpad are Cielito Lindo || Aguilar by claryvette and Am I Wrong (Gareth Bale) by thelonewolf68 . Off wattpad my favorite is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
We've noticed you write in both English and Spanish. Which is more challenging and why?
Writing in Spanish is harder. Spanish is my first language but when I came to the USA I learned english and it became my everyday language. I only finished kindergarten in Mexico so I didn't really learn how to write/spell. Even though I think better in Spanish, I write better in English.
What aspect of your stories do you enjoy creating the most and why?
The drama hahaha. Everybody loves drama and it's so easy to create and I just enjoy it. Plus, the drama always makes the stories more interesting.
What's the best writing tip you've ever been given?
Probably the one that my writing teacher gave me which is : not one of your ideas is bad. They are all good and they should be used in your writing.
Any writing tips you'd like to share?
Check the grammar more than once. List all your ideas down because you might think that you don't need them but later on you might. That's all :)
If you could swap life with any footballer for a week, who would you choose and why?
I would swap with Cristiano Ronaldo. I would like to know how it feels to be famous and rich. To have people take pictures of me of whatever I'm doing. Also I would like to feel how it is to be one of the greatest footballers of all times.
Any upcoming stories?
Unfortunately no. Get ideas to write new stories, I post them and then I delete them because I think they are a flop.
What are your thoughts on the current state of the football genre on Wattpad?
Football on wattpad is expanding. It's getting more popular each day. It's finally getting the attention it deserves.
Do you support the football project and what do you think of it?
Definitely yes! It's such a great idea. People can interact with others about the same topic, football! I think that The Football Project will make football on wattpad even more important.
